Cauldron One <> TORN FROM THE THROAT OF THE DEVIL HIMSELF.

[ Now playing in Demon Tribe Hollow... Magnifishit (DTH track 1,927 of 56,999) by Skinny Puppy from Mythmaker ]

I'm beginning yet again. Two months ago, I thought I would have MySpace, Facebook & Twitter sites for my music and graphic art project - Demon Tribe Hollow - I began with the opening of my site just after the first of the year. Well, I guess too much has been going on for me to get those sites up. Things just keep cropping up, like today for instance. I thought the power supply to one of my hard drives died, so I went out and got a new one, only to return home and find out that it hadn't actually expired. Just little things like that, you know, day in, day out. But this particular occasion is good, in a way, at least in that it reminded me I need to get my data fully backed up, which I don't now. And if I lost any of it, I know I'd fret forever.

Anyway, I'm going to try to post every day from now on. I know I've said that many times before, but all I can do is say I'm going to give it another go. What's a great song to begin this new resolution? I think I have a near-perfect one; it's magical to me in a way that very few pieces of music are...

I revisited one of my absolute favorite films of the past decade on Sunday night -- Stephen King & Frank Darabont's The Mist. Actors Thomas Jane & Marcia Gay Harden do absolutely impeccable jobs in the film, as far as I'm concerned, and the direction offered by Darabont's sure hand is remarkable. Jane's character, at the end, is the ultimate personification of anguish, and Harden's role is a remarkably accurate female Jim Jones throughout. And the Lovecraftian horrors they encounter -- perfect nightmares. Therefore, last, but in no way even the slightest bit least, is the role Australian duo Dead Can Dance play in the movie, with their truly awe-inspiring The Host Of Seraphim, which nearly becomes a character itself, considering the prominent role the piece plays during the film's climax. Religious, profound, sublime, infinitely moving -- there are not words to describe DCD's awesome achievement.

Damn, I'm starting over again. Got many things to say, but tonight's going to have to suffice with the following... I think my maiden post here on this magickal day of the twenty-third is going to be about music (as most of what I write will be). Specifically, I want to focus on the only audio cassette I ever wore out from playing too much, and the first compact disc I ever owned. This is an album that I almost never failed to boombox-blast on nearly every away-game trip I took with my high school band during our senior year. It gave perfect voice to the alienation and angst I felt during that time, and continues to define how I think about music today. By many critic's opinion, it remains the best hip-hop record ever made, and it's a title likely to stay. It is Public Enemy's "Fear Of A Black Planet".

Saw Chronicle tonight with one of my one, true great friends here in San Diego. Had to bail on the party early though because of a doctor appointment tomorrow morning. (Nothing major; just some head-shrinking.) Work's been steady and pretty engaging, as I'm in the process of learning a new way to use PHP (Internet scripting language) -- CakePHP. Also, speaking of tech, my beloved iPod with 60k tracks on it died on Wednesday morning from a super-quick battery drain. Not to worry, though, as I've since resurrected it with 573 new tracks to replace the ones on which I wasn't so keen. Interested perhaps in this music snob curator/contributor's decisions on who got cut and who was introduced?

[ Now playing in Demon Tribe Hollow... Electric Cafe (DTH track 7,338 of 56,999) by Kraftwerk from Electric Cafe ]

Just finished a mountain of paperwork that's been piling up over the last couple of months, much of it relating to my mom's passing away in late October of last year. Difficult to both reflect solemnly on how much I miss her and to try to keep business issues and legal docs in order at the same time.

I’m stressed out about work, too. Friday was really difficult, with an especially trying evening. I hope all goes well in the morning.

Despite that end-of-week calamity, the weekend was really good. Hung out with a good friend, drank wine and watched one of my absolute, all-time horror faves – Hellbound: Hellraiser II – after having not seen it for years.

Also celebrated one of my very best friend’s birthday at a great local place for Mexican food that I hadn’t been to in about a year. Then hung out for the eve in Rancho San Diego with a smaller crew from that same party.

I’m very tired, so I’ll leave more time to update tomorrow morning. I’ll do a more proper, longer one then.

It's getting more challenging to leave some sort of thought for the day that's more encompassing than something like a status update. And I realize I may seem to focus on tragedy more than most, but I promise tomorrow's update will be happier.

I was reminded tonight of a man named Kevin Cosgrove, who for me, in a strange way, symbolizes all those who died in the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001. I suppose the reason for this is that his 9-1-1 phone call is one of the few that actually lasts right up until the South Tower collapsed. The desperation, pain and anguish in his voice never leaves you once you've heard it. And I think it's important that people hear it because it reinforces something that should never be forgotten. These men and women who had families, and were loving people, whose time on this planet was so cruelly truncated.

I imagine I can get some sense of Kevin's horror when I hear his voice, and it is unbearable. I'm thankful I'm not a 9-1-1 operator, and particularly thankful I wasn't the person he ended up calling that day. Because I would have broken down, utterly and completely.

Read through this Salon article early this morning.

I find it nearly unfathomable that people are made to suffer through things like this. I can't imagine going through it myself, so it's incredible to me that some folks are able to survive it all. Cancer is terrifying. So horrible that it seems like it could only be the stuff of nightmares. Some amorphous abomination that could only manifest in the mind because it's too profoundly malignant to actually exist.

To end with positivity, no one in my immediate circle of family and friends has it; I hope we're all taking steps to lead ever healthier lives.

Just spent a little bit of time talking to a neighbor this eve about life, dogs & tattoos. He has a pit bull puppy who's growing up very quickly. Beautiful dog, and it amazes me how they're naturally built with that much lean muscle. Do they not even have to work to build it up?

And in other animal news, I desperately want to take a trip to Sarasota, FL to visit this place in person.

I love both dogs and cats very much, but if I was forced to choose, I'd pick the felid. And the handsome beasts at the Big Cat Habitat must be truly awesome to behold. With so many large felines coming dangerously close to extinction, it's wonderful to know there are people out there who are determined not to let them die out.

I don't know if would ever be brave enough to actually be in the same open space with one of these cats -- considering how easily lethal they are -- but I would love to be able to pet a cub one day.

Not much remarkable to report today. Worked, ate well, and saw half of Brooklyn’s Finest, which I dig so far. Also, with all this un-sunny weather, my avocados aren’t ripening very quickly at all. So I currently have them sitting in a closed bag with apples in front of a mild heat. I read online that this is supposed to work. Anybody verify?

Otherwise, my health is continuing to do pretty well, and of course, tonight I’m once again due for a workout. Hopefully, all continues to run smoothly, figuratively and literally.

*clears throat*

As quoted in this month's issue of Scientific American: "Forensic videographers today officially revealed what the world has long suspected -- that though he performed gracefully in the nude for much of his musical career, there stunningly remains no photographic evidence that G.G. Allin actually had a penis. Thank you."

Goddamnit.

I fuckin' blew it again. *shakes fist at the sky & curses his very existence*

I failed to make the trek to the gorgeous City of Angel-Hell Saturday night to see Dave "Rave" Ogilvie and his band Jakalope at Bar Sinister.

Instead, I cleaned and fuckin straight-up sanitized my apartment and did three months of laundry. (Yes! Did you, in fact, know that I have enough clean chonies to last me three whole months? It's the triple truth, Ruth.)

So, I don't really have any exciting stories to tell. However, today was my pop's birthday and so I went up to Poway. If you don't know where that is in San Diego County, it's basically "the city in the country". (Let the town motto be your guide.) I bought him a birthday dinner at a steakhouse kinda place. Okay actually I bought my stepmom's dinner and my brother bought my dad's dinner. It was pretty much a tag-team situation, is what I'm trying to say.

Oh. You know what rules just as much as - if not more than - life itself?

HORSETHEMOTHERFUCKINGBAND.
