Work and stuff has kept me far too busy. But I'm still around here somewhere...

You know what's really nice?

Realizing that you have so many pics on your favorites page that you forgot some of them were even there. It's like discovering them for the first time all over again!

They say your memory is the second thing to go...

surreal

Would have loved to have gone to the DVD release last night or the signing tonight, but commuting from LA to Costa Mesa every day had other plans for me... Hey, at least I know whats going on around here! wink

Oh, and accidentally stumbling onto the fact that there is an SG Dashboard Widget for OS X is sweet! Now that I got my dual 2.5 Ghz G5 with 2.5 Gb of RAM (my 9th Mac total and half of them are still in use!), I guess it's about time I posted in the Mac group too...

[Edited and corrected because my memory just started working again... Sorry if you already read my prior invented story of how I thought this all came together]

See the thing is, I knew about SG for a while before I finally joined in Dec. 03 after seeing a copy of whatever LA free paper it was that had the SG cover story with Voltaire (and someone else?) on it. I read the article and thought: Damn, they're really onto something good here and it sounds like the girls get treated like actual human beings. I credited that to Missy being in charge.

Was that article part the HBO special publicity push? Not that anyone cares really. I just find it interesting that I'm once again in a cool-but-not-quite-cool-enough-for-the-cool-kids pigeonhole. Story of my life really...

I never watch TV, haven't had HBO in over 5 years (have litterally never seen an episode of SexITC or Sopranos, etc.), and didn't even know for sure there *was* an SG HBO special until about 6 months ago. I really don't recall the article I read mentioning it.

My not qualifying for SG Middle Skool is just like college was for me. I was accepted right out of high school but didn't enroll until much much later. Missed the boat on getting it out of the way when I should have.

Will you forgive me? tongue

I just thought the name was funny and so I clicked and saw the criteria for entry:

SG Middle Skool

"This is the group for SG members haven't been on the site long enough to be considered "Old Skool," but don't have the patience to play with the new kids anymore.

Middle Skool is ONLY for members who joined in or before October 2003 (pre-HBO Special). Old Skoolers are welcome to join, too."

I guess I prolly sound whiny. Heh. Not looking for anything, just saying is all. wink

So I got me a new job (5 month contract gig at FileNet.com) paying me far more than I've ever come close to before, a new SGLA membership (thanks Bean for finally getting that straightened out!) and a new lease on life for a freakin change. I'm not gonna hold my breath or anything, but are things actually looking up?

Not everything is perfect: getting back together with STG was shorter lived this time than it was the first time I played with them, but it wasn't as bad as a failed second chance with an ex or anything... And I've got plenty of my own stuff going to keep me both busy and happy.

Time to have some fun with this newly restored income stream. I kid you not, the next time you see me, I'm buying all your drinks that night. And you don't even have to go home with me. Neither does your girlfriend.

On writing *almost* completely in metaphor...

As one reads, over time you occasionally finish chapters and eventually you finish whole books. I just finished an important and impactful chapter in a book that I'd been reading over the course of almost the whole past year and I've now set it aside for a while. Within easy reach, but no longer an active read. One of my favorite books of all time to be sure, but one that is better used only for reference at this point. The story is most compelling to me, but I have to move on to other subjects. The summer session is short and I got two units a week of VB.NET to do (yes I already code VB/C#/ASP.NET, but a top-down classroom approach is really nice when you've learned all you know on the playground). And just as Burning Chrome is a collection of short stories, not every book has to be read fully or all it's wonders discovered in just one sitting.

And I have just had a work on a completely different topic (not even the same area of study) recommended to me. This new book purports to contain methods to improve things for myself as an individual. A very powerful tome written by true masters. Neither religious relic nor philosophical treatise, not some ancient martial arts scrolls or cheap self help paperback, this is a book of facts and opportunities. Not instructions, but more a guide of things that could be things to come if the right steps are taken and the brass ring seized on the first try. This book is Top Secret. Deadly serious top secret. You cannot buy it online or in a book store. You can only get a copy if you know someone who knows how to get a copy. Or so I'm told... This is an extremely limited release. But it's not contraband, the subject is not taboo, it's just carefully controlled and closely guarded. It is so top secret that I don't even know the title yet. I have been told that within the next two weeks I will be meeting with two representatives of the publisher. Only then will it be discussed whether or not I will be permitted to have a copy of this book to read. But the publisher is definitely interested in talking to me about it. Let's just say that accepting a copy of this book: it's kind of like having to make the red pill - blue pill decision only without all the science fiction. If offered and you don't take the book, life goes on like normal. But if you take the book... into the rabbit hole you will go.

The first chapter of this book supposedly will change my life in ways that I don't yet know if I'm ok with or prepared for. It just might be an offer I won't want to refuse, but it's not supposed to be an offer I *can't* refuse in that "I'm gonna make you an offer you can't refuse" kind of way. And I haven't seen the cover of this book yet let alone read the table of contents. All I've been told so far by my sponsor is that it's supposed to be a great read for those who are into this kind of reading.

I may have to move to another city to read it. I may have to learn a new language or two to know *how* to read it. I may have to leave things behind that I have always cherished in order to take on this new knowledge.

Confused? Don't forget the title of this post...

ouch!

so a relatively recent ex of mine has applied to be an SG. I was excited and dismayed at the same time when I heard about this because I think she is absolutely beautiful and I want her to do well with her modeling and I think she deserves it (she didn't really start modeling seriously until after we split), but I also loathed the notion of someday seeing her first set go up in that J Giles Band "Angel is a Centerfold" kind of way (hey, stuff it! I *am* 38 and sucky music existed in every decade). meh. this isn't a big deal in that broken hearted kind of way. it's ok to miss an ex, right? and it's not like I don't know what she looks like naked. but I also kind of feel like SG is the last community I have where I don't have to see her everywhere I go all the time. If she ended up here I'd be ok with that and want her on my friends list, but it's just a nice buffer zone right now. ha! she's prolly got a hidden profile and is reading this right now anyway. :|

but now it appears that she didn't make the cut because she's not hearing back from anyone and she's been doing everything she was told to do in the way of follow up. who knows, maybe Missy is just bogged down and shit.

sorry kiddo.

Wow. I'm not ususally short on words. But every time I begin, I find I'm reading over my own shoulder, editing as I go and rejecting every submission. Either I'm holding myself back from opening up and being free to be myself or I'm being smart and not saying things that other people (certain people in particular) don't need to be reading. Maybe both.

[sorry, I forgot to mention I'm complaining about LJ again... :p]

This Friday, Phillip "The Fair" spins in his grave!!!

(Not that anyone is necessarily paying attention, or that anyone on my meager SG friends list will get to go, but as of last night, I'm still playing keys for STG...)

I've got all of five people on my friends list here on SG right now and absolutely no idea if anyone else ever sees my journal here. But this is cool and important to me so I'm recording it in every permanent record I've got:

---

Los Angeles' legendary cyberpunk band STG has reformed, and it just so happens that I'm the keyboardist. We made an album ( http://rottenrecords.com/store/shopping/product_details.php?id=221&PHPSESSID=97316032c43f6b631b3d1e1368da4fa5 ) for Rotten Records back in '93 and there have been a couple of brief if failed temporary incarnations of the lineup since we all last played together 12 years ago (here's the official history: http://www.12inch.com/stg ), but STG never replaced me on keys. And I haven't been on stage in about 10 years since playing keys early on to help Chad Bishop launch Idiot Stare out of the ashes of STG. Instead I had been concentrating on other things in my life. Hey, that's the best cop out I've got. :p

We've been rehearsing 2-3 times a week with the whole band for the past few weeks plus several "technical sessions" with me, shAmii/Jamie and "the other Chad" programming the computers a couple of nights a week on top of that. And this past week, all that hard work started to come to fruition! With one rehearsal left to go, there is still work to do polishing our set, but we sounded right. We were ON! We sounded like a band again: hard, fast, loud, noisy, powerful and solid. No doubt about it. We're ready.

Ready for what? Well since you asked, LA's DJ Thermal Detonator is promoting a new club called Quarantine, and we're headlining opening night! This is what I do! Don't miss it!
