2) Big transmissions like the NV4500 and 4L80E do not have provisions for mechanical speedometers in 2WD form. To "fix" this, you'll need the following:
--a) The VSSB or DRAC from a later GM truck or van. You can find them in junk yards for a fairly reasonable price... The internet and eBay are not particularly good sources (look to spend $100 online, vs. my $5 junk yard grab). This will need to be modified to fit your tire/gear selection.
--b) The RARE electronic speedometer from a GASOLINE (FUEL-INJECTED), *NOT* DIESEL 90 or 91 GM Blazer, Suburban, or HD Crew Cab P/U (the last of the box-style trucks), OR, an electronic speedo from a GM van to 95... You can replace the face on the van speedo with the face from your original truck speedo... There are even SOME (not all) van speedos w/ trip odometer that can be used with the truck speedo w/trip odometer faces (some trimming required to fit the extra odometer digit).
--c) The modification instructions and wiring diagrams can be found with a quick Google search. You'll need some basic skills (including board soldering) and tools to do the job, but you'll be able to retain your factory dashboard with factory style gauges and electronic cruise (mechanical cruise is a no-go) and even install anti-lock brakes, if you feel really ambitious.
