I like to sit at the back at the high tables and watch people come an go. The local retirees for the pension plan priced entrees. The under-age looking to get served. The lonely and the lost looking to be out but not visible. They all had their reasons to come here. It wasn't for the sticky tables or spotty flatware. The decor leaves everything to be desired, but the world leaves you alone here with your desires. My desire brought me here. She brought me here because she owed me lunch. She didn't really owe me lunch, but she was far too lovely with which to disagree. I did take her out for some tacos, but that was at Taco Bell and largely on a dare. I was working on her PC when one of the office mavens made some snide remark about how the younger and the lovely's tech problems received much more thorough and prompt attention. Making sure I could be heard, I declared my hunger and asked the maiden if she would like to tie on the feedbag. I didn't get to relish how this grated on old crow's nerves for long because she surprised me and said 'yes'. So, we had are awkward tacos, a few laughs, and went back to work.
The next day, she informed me that she was going to repay her gastronomic debt at her favorite place. That is how we ended up at this out-of-the-way place. We had another nice lunch. I told her stories, made her laugh, and enjoyed every glimmer of her smile and squeak of her laugh. I was seen with her and I enjoyed being seen with her. I enjoyed how the busboys would find excuse to gather by the rail and talk excitedly about her. She was one of life's amusement park rides. I didn't need to defend her. When lunch was over, I and the busboys would both go back to our tired existence. The ride would be over, or so I thought until the bill came. She didn't have enough money to pay it. She said she buy next time though.
Pregnant with infinity. Once a star was bourne here. It's fiery furnace made the entire galaxy dance hot in it rays. No number of tequilas or patio heaters can begin to warm the void left behind.
