as for the questions i think the ny dolls were more punk than anything. they were scumbags who didn't give a fuck..most glam artists were just flowery hippies with make-up.

well in the the case of mod being dead...i started a mod group here on sg ( All Mod Cons ) but nobody goes on it. that should answer your question.honestly i think it had its last gasp in the mid-nineties. now its just the scattered few

The New York Dolls were just a rock 'n' roll band. They were glam. Fuck, they defined the genre, if you really want to call it a genre. They were punk too. They set the tone for every cool band to follow. They are responsible for punk, moreso than The Stooges, or MC5. The Dolls had that "from the streets" sound that those bands didn't have. Also, their music was derived from Black music, which made it that much tougher. They didn't know what they were doing. They were the coolest. Don't get me started. Oops, too late.

I grew up on all that glam and punk your asking stupid questions about, and frankly, Hank Williams SR., atleast in attitude was one of the first punk artists, along with Woddy Gutherie.
They embody working class music about working class people. and the inner struggle between sin and salvation.
