Little Amir who would come by our very remote 'commie castle' (old soviet eara installation meaning everything is made of concrete) to hoc dvds, magazines and cigs to us came with a surpise today. Seems my 50 usd transaction for a six of beer got some attention a week or so ago. He came with is older brother (from where I have no idea there is nothing around forever) with more beer!!! and OMG yes !!!!! A fucking sandwhich!!!! I havve not seen one in a while, its quite good too. They brough it all in a dry iced cooler... bless them... and the beer was COOOLD!!! I think so little about the conflict we are pretty far from any sort of action, just have to watch the mines the USSR left in the 80s. Stay in the path... unless you want to lose a stick or worse. Amir is coool and I met his big brutha when I first got here. He sold me a cuban cigar (its no fatty but beggars cant be choosers here) and a UK version of playboy. I pay way more to them than their asking price while others try to do the local haggle which is as sterotypical as it is customary. His brother asked why I pay more than the high first price? I said look where we are?!? You could charge anything you want to me, I rarely leave the compund grounds and safe zones and don't want to; I would like too return with all sticks intact. We are not officail military anyway and its not like anyone can sneak up on us it is flat mojavish desert for miles and miles. Our contract snipers would pick off anyone who meant us harm 1/4 mile before they got close enough to see the little bumb that is our building (looks like a desert waco). Anyway I digress... when I first got here I Amir took me to a graveyard of old soviet tanks and bmps. I gave him the nickname 'Tank', he likes it and his family is pretty down with us contract boys due to our willingness to pay 'overprice' as they call it for certain goods. I try to explain capitalism in the desert but they don't get it yet but are making in Afganistan what is a tidy fortune. If the cold beer keeps flowing soon they will be able to build a new house. This is th real reconstruction. Besides wtf good is money if you have no where to spend it on. Last time to Kandi I was able to extract some of my funds in the form of a shitload of cash JIC. Never thought it would satisfy my menial vices and help anyone. Now if he could just some women for us... that aint gonna happen though and I wouldnt let him. That is way to risky for his family but we would glady surrender to the SG army of such a force were to decend upon us... Myy beer is getting warm so I must go... mmmmmm beeeeer...

Today was actually fun... most of the rest of the crew was back in 'commie castle' as we call it so we played some football and target blasted empties from the previous week (mostly consumed by the three techs left more or less alone in this spooky place over the last week). Time to grill some dogs and watch the sun finish its decent (hot dogs not fido, just thought i'd clarify)... 840pm

Have a new friend in the form of a cat that follwed me back from a boring sensor sweep the other eve. She is a skinny little thang. I named her Kandahar... She sets a good example sleeping all the time and loves MREs which pretty much taste like catfood (well not all) but anyway. Its lonely here but i read alot and Kandahar sits in my lap and sleeps and purrs and sleeps. Was hoping to snag a decent movie from the kids that sometimes hoc piratedd dvds and porn to us but they never came by as they usually do. Can't blame'm though we are so remote and they have to walk most of the time. My movie request list at the moemnt is:

3 days with 6 hours of sleep, I think I am starting to see into the wildwood. I miss my records, cds and guitars...
