This is a bit late in coming but I had a freakin blast at SDCC 2014. First Con I've ever been to and it was amazing. Honestly a little overwhelming in how much there was to see and do. There were so many panels I wanted to go to but didn't have the time or they conflicted with panels I was already attending (Missed the Orphan Black panel, sadness).
As it was my first Con I don't really have a frame of reference, but I can see why so many people have gotten frustrated with the experience. It's super expensive (and I got something of a discount), it's also so crowded that it easily gets uncomfortable. For instance I didn't bother going anywhere near Hall H, it's just not worth it. Ran into a fella that had a "One does not simply walk into Hall H" wrist band, if that's any indication. Also it was hot as shit, just... I think I sweat basically the entire time. Lovely I know.
BUT, those are really the only complaints I can voice. I basically just decided from the get go to have fun just wandering, try to hit up the panels I wanted to see and if I didn't get in then just enjoy wandering the main floor. Could people watch for days there.
Overall it was totally worth the experience and I was basically in nerd heaven. Love it.
So, some highlights:
I ran into some of the Suicide Girls on the street when I was heading to an after-party. Snagged this photo with them. For some reason I'm ducking to their height? It felt like the thing to do at the time, occasionally I am an awkward person.
Also grabbed a signed print, I'm a big fan of Cameron Stewart's art and wanted to support the cause and all that jazz. Had a nice chat with him about the redesign of Bat-girl's costume as well.
Gotta say, my favorite panel was probably the one for Mike Tyson's Mysteries:
It was seriously just the most... bizarre and amazing experience. Tyson was up there saying all kinds of shit, and Rob Corddory and Jim Rash were just riffing off of it. So damn surreal... I don't even really know how to put it into words. At one point Mike Tyson started telling some kid who'd stood up to sit back down, Rob Corddry went dead pan and just said "dude, sit back down, you should really... you should really sit back down..."
It was actually really surprising to see how much Mike Tyson was willing to just play around and be goofy, he seemed quite self aware that he was a spectacle. Didn't stop him from saying crazy ass shit like "there should be more Mexicans in the show" as a way of saying the show should be more diverse, but he was basically just up there having a good time and letting everyone riff off of him. Oh and for some reason he was really excited he wasn't displayed in a sluggish way, something about how fast he moved... also he spoke chinese? And told Rob Corddry he looked like Professor X.
Mainly I just had a blast seeing all the amazing costumes, awesome art, and get some cool looks into the process of some of my favorite shows and comics.
Got a sneak at the new animated series "Moon Beam City" voiced by Rob Lowe. Unfortunately didn't grab any pics but the art was gorgeous. Total 90's nostalgia with strong influences by Gem and the Holograms and such. Except it's incredibly raunchy and quite hilarious.
Ended up at a party hosted by the Showrunner of Big Bang Theory and got to briefly meet George RR Martin along with some other notable folks, so all in all quite a great time.

And finally, to top it all off, been following the talented @Iamosi for quite a while. Love his work so I decided to get a portrait of me as Spidey/Santa, just cause.
