travel notes from nigeria: day 1.
i made the mistake of forgetting to bring my immunization card with me this trip. that lead to my first shakedown attempt approximately 37 seconds after landing in Lagos. "no card, you cannot enter," he said. i said ok, i will turn around and go back on the next flight." long stare. waved me through.
me 1, nigeria 0. but its still early in the game.
i won't mention how my friend/colleague who is also here decided it would be a good idea for us to go for a run through the streets of Lagos, so he bolted out the gate of the hotel and had me chase after him. at 7pm (ie almost dark). and both with Iphones strapped to our arms.........i kept going for about 1/4 mile and turned back...
and did i mention it is "Russia Night" at the luxurious Eko Hotel Lagos? This much fun in the hands of one man. i am embarrassed and humbled........

well, this year is off to an awesome fucking start. packing my bags for......Nigeria.........at least last time i was there there were no shakedowns and didn't see the barrels of any guns. lets see if we can make it two times in a row........

tomorrow is the day. THE DAY. tomorrow at 11am et i am supposed to maybe possibly get the job offer. its the equivalent of "my brand new killer set is going up".....except for that i am a fat old man with no life.....anyway......
so maybe i move to europe. maybe i don't. maybe i puke my guts out. maybe i meet some hot girl at the bar tonight and none of it matters (since i am the only person here i find that unlikely, but hey lets keep all options open).

ok, i think i am ready. 4 soups are done (gazpacho, cream of onion, tom yam, and strawberry cream). 6 appetizers are done. turkey and other "meat" is ready to go (even though i don't eat that stuff). have to get up at 6am to start cooking again.....

ok, christmas can officially start in 22 hours. flying back from bangkok to detroit at 5am. should be back at noon on saturday. now i have to figure out what to cook for 50+ people......vacation is work. work is vacation.
i guess i'll do anything to avoid working today.......here is my most recent excuse.....
in about an hour i have to pack up and take off for bangkok..so i guess i am two trivial excuses away from doing absolutely jack shit today......
