i am making a blueberry pie. does that mean i have identity issues? No. it means i am fucking awesome!!!!
there are only two cities where i notoriously "burn it hard." in other words, you may find me at the airport at 5am drinking beer. like i am right now.
one of those places is well documented in these pages -- bangkok. the other is kiev, which is where i find myself at the moment -- beer in hand, wondering what the fuck just happened. this is a common occurance. this time i did not stay out all night, nor did i completely forget the hours between 11pm and 4am. i remember pretty much everything. but beyond that there is little excuse.
in any event, i need to slam this beer and board a flight to ams. i'll be back in the US in 16 hours. and i plan to stay there for at least a week. maybe.

why in the hell did i take a fucking nap? in the middle of the day. my old-man-ness is pretty much undeniable at this point.....
it all started out so promising -- started work at 845; finished work at 915. done for the day and ready to go do something. anything. blink blink and now its 6pm and i pretty much have done nothing but eat, walk around for five minutes and browse old sg photos through 2004. such is the life of a do-nothing.
anyway, now i can get ready for my departure from ukraine, which is at the ungodly hour of 6am tomorrow. and believe it or not i am actually going to detroit for a change. sort of where i live. sort of. i'll be back in kiev in less than two weeks -- we can try this again......
hasta la fin del veulos.......

any tattoo artist suggestions for kyiv? i am pretty much free tomorrow, and since its the day before independence day and nobody is really working, i think getting a tattoo is the best thing i can do........
l love ukraine....
l love ukraine....
Oh-dessa. I'm back after a week roaming around scotland and denmark doing fuck-all. now i'm back on-line and back at it (whatever it is). day one of the new and improved grind is odessa -- one of my favorite cities.
i am just realizing that i go to cool places for work and shitty places for vacation. work -- ukraine. vacation -- denmark. work -- bangladesh. vacation -- new york. ok never mind; i think the example broke with bangladesh.....
odessa actually has a strange place in my life. i haven't been here in more than 10 years, but when i was in college i came here once for new years. a friend of mine and i took the train here from paris, which took like 24 hours or something like that. we met some cool smuggler-type dudes and their friends, and hung out with them for a week. they didn't speak english at all so pretty much all communications was through drawings. after a day or so i starting hanging out with this girl Tatyana, and we would walk around for hours not saying a damn thing but holding hands and doing goofy romantic teenager stuff. not once did we say a word to each other.
on the last day we got on the train, and as i said goodbye she handed me a note that said, in english, "i love you. come back to me." by the time i read it the train was already gone.....
that's a true story, but my ukranian friends hear this story and say "yeah, she's a grandma by now -- if she is out of prison....." thanks a LOT.
anyway, that's enough romantic bullshit. one day here and its off to kyiv. any recommendations for tattoo spots in kyiv -- after all it is independence day weekend!

a winding road to Fringe, but i'm in edinburgh -- so no complaining. after all, i could be in new jersey.....not the smoothest path to say the least -- toronto to copenhagen to amsterdam., and on top of that a pretty lackluster day 1. Fringe seems a lot more subdued than it normally does......
rhys darby was mediocre at best, and the coolest thing of the day was this awesome lou girl and her crazy improv bit about fishing for compliments -- "if your face was on currency, i would have a really sticky purse"....
relax, have a few pints, and we will see what happens over the weekend. did i mention that i am not in new jersey??

i've been quiet for a few days, but after thinking about it long and hard (not really) -- screw it, i'm going to fringe. i lasted 3 days at home, its time for another vacation. plus fringe is not so much vacation as social duty.......
to scotland!
to scotland!
well, i missed that flight......now what in the hell am i supposed to do? pretty much all the flights out of nyc today are sold out, so i guess i will have to hang another day........now if my ukranian friends would just wake up so the tourguide can continue.......
last day of a three week bender (that means that tomorrow starts a new three week bender....)
taking my buddies to see lucinda williams at the MH in williamsburg and to joe does for dinner. tomorrow morning i'm heading back to detroit for a day or two. next week is up in the air -- maybe back to NYC, maybe to fringe in edinburgh. who knows.
i have been criticized for the lack of any photos so here it is --- remember you asked:
termas geometricas nearby to pucon.....

huilo huilo somewhere in the lake district of chile......

a dull thuddish end to an otherwise smashed-teeth trip. bangkok was quiet, uneventful and not even that hot. noodles on a plastic stool in front of the 7-11 on sukhumvit and its all over.
next its gets tricky -- get up at 330am for a 530 am flight to tokyo then philadelphia. meeting some friends from Kyiv who are coming in for the week. and we will see......

then finally a week in NYC. no airplanes. ok, seriously 3 days. same shit.
