So just woke up and experiencing the hangover from the Warp tour. It was a pretty groovy affair, something like 6-7 stages, a side show (in the classic form complete with a barker and examples up front). It was held in the Invesco Fields parking lot. And as you might imagine it was fucking hot. I am not looking forward to taking care of my sunburned flesh as weeks go by. But in the end it was worth it.
The people there to see the shows was where the real fun was. It's pretty amazing to see the types of people that a show like this can bring in. Mohawks were advertising, emo's were dying, skater kids were skating, and jocks were drunk. Not too different from normal day life, except every one was there to listen to music that they related to, that got them moving. As far as I'm aware there wasn't a single brawl or fist fight. It was awesome.
About half way through Pennywise's set we had a ~10 minute storm that dropped a few hundred gallons of water to cool down the crowd. It was something else to see all the people (I heard that some 20,000 people were there) sliding into the tents, booths and trees to try and remain dry. One kid even slid own a grass hill in his dashing red and white polka doted boxers. After wondering in the rain for a bit, I was able to locate a bean bag hacky sack circle. We were able to get a good couple of serves going beside the fact that it was raining, and the sack was fucking soaked.
Just as things were wrapping up I stopped by the Bad Religion tent because a nice woman named Jes told me that the new album was on sale. While when I got there the disks were all packed away, I had the opportunity to share a few words with Jay.
It was a awesome time, and well worth the sunburn. Here's a salute to all those people that put up with the shitty weather, to watch and listen to bands that get your blood going. And to all the bands that came out. Thanks.
