This may be boring for some of you...oh, who am I kidding? This will probably be boring for most of you. But, I'm going to soldier on and write it anyway!
All writers are very different in not only what they write, but how they write. If you've ever heard the expression, "I'm different, just like everybody else" that describes writers to a T. So, just for giggles (Disclaimer: probably won't be any giggling) I thought I'd share my writing process and how I usually spend my weekdays.
After the kids are off to school (whether by being dropped off there or being picked up by the bus), I head home and make myself a pot of coffee (minimum 8 cups a day). Then, I check my mail to see if there's anything that came up and needs my attention. And then, it's my goof off time (I allot myself an hour or two each day to check FB, post here on SG, things of that nature) so that way when I'm ready I can concentrate and not be distracted. I close down my browsers, turn over my cell, and open up whatever it is I'm working on.
Now, for me, I write on my laptop. I have to have the blinds open, but not the actual window itself. I must have absolute silence when I write. That means no music, no TV, no people in the room with me, nothing. When it comes to writing these blogs, I can actually have people in the room or noise going on around me (though if it's too much it can take me longer to write it). But when it comes to my novels, it must be quiet. Otherwise, I can't focus at all. And, I usually write at least 5 days a week, some weeks 6 if I can get away with it. And, it's a minimum of 1000 words each day, with my average usually being about 1500 words per day.
But I've known writers who have to write in a room with no view of the outside; writers who have to listen to classical or even pop or metal (!) music when they write; writers who can write in a busy coffee shop with all that noise and hustle and bustle going on around them. And, I even knew a writer who did his best work only when his girlfriend was right next to him, even though he ignored her while he was doing it!
So, there you have it. A glimpse into the hectic and exciting world of being a writer. I hope you all enjoyed it. ::crickets chirping loudly:: or if not, hopefully it cured any insomnia you might have been experiencing :P XD
