hello sg family! due to health/work issues i've been pretty inconsistent with blog posts, and i apologize.

i want to talk to you today about sexual health. hopefully, all of you reading this are having lots n lots of passionate, fun, healthy and responsible sex, like i am. i mean, not to brag or anything, but i have a lot of great sex.

it was recently reported that a tiny school in shippensburg pennsylvania has the sluttiest vending machine in america. they *gasp* stock the emergency contraceptive, Plan B, along with condoms.

well, as you can imagine that news sent shockwaves rolling across the nation, rifling bible pages from coast to coast. questions abound.

is it legal? yes. plan B is available OTC to women over the age of 17. which means, of course that women under the age of 17 have yet another barrier to being in control of their bodies. and by available OTC, i mean that you must go to the pharmacist and ask for this perfectly legal and safe contraceptive, because most stores won't put it on the shelves due to moral outrage.

is it moral? the fuck do you care? to me, it's immoral to limit women's sexual health, and in my eyes, someone who is against birth control had better fuckin be pro-abortion, because if not you think women should be barefoot and pregnant. i will be clear on this- if americans did not have access to birth control, our country would crumble. to be unable to limit or plan the number of children you have will not only raise maternal and infant mortality rates, but will firmly plant most heterosexual people below the poverty line. so, when you hear people like santorum ranting on about morals concerning your sexual health and your family, think about who would most benefit from creating a serf class.

and, much to my dismay, many of the questions raised were about the most simple and basic aspects of being sexually responsible.

is this an abortion pill? there is no such thing as an abortion pill. plan B is a one time dose of the hormone levonorgestrel. it is safe, and in fact, if a pregnant women takes planB, nothing will happen. it will not harm mother or child, all it does is prevent pregnancy, and that is a very short window of effectiveness. once fertilization occurs, and the egg implants, the pill is completely not effective.

won't this raise STD rates? well, let's see, did the invention of the birth control pill make STD rates skyrocket? because that's what this is. birth control. not disease control. birth control is not intended to stop transmission of disease, and will NOT stop you from getting an STD. the ONLY things that will stop you from getting an STD is the knowledge of what prophylactics are, and where to get them and how to use them. so here's a great link to Planned Parenthood's page on STD's. forward it to your friends, print it out and post it around your apartment complex, put it in the parent newsletter of your kid's nursery school. share it. this info will save someone's life.

won't kids have more sex? yes. but not because they have more tools to do so safely. kids will have sex because it's living things' strongest drive, after eating and drinking and sleeping. they'll have sex because it's fun, because it feels good, and they'll have sex for all the wrong reasons, too. kids always have had sex, they did in your parents generation, and throughout recorded history. let's make sure they do so responsibly.

so, here's another great link, bedsider.org. it's got birth control information up the ying yang. it lists every type of birth control (some of which go up your ying yang)and their pros and cons. it even has a feature to set up a reminder for you to take your preferred method of birth control. how easy is that?
"crap somebody just texted me...ooooohhhh it's time to take my pill!"
so, share that one too.

there's lots of articles out there on this topic, and lots of them are wrong. i linked the article i thought most factual, but if you read FOX's article, you'll find out how upset the christians are about this and what steps are being taken to stop this travesty, and that it's under investigation. what they don't report is this vending machine has been in place for 2 years. and that nobody on campus is under age 17. or that this campus is very isolated, and far from town. another article i read makes the completely false statement that plan B is not available in pharmacies. wrong, wrongety wrongwrong. christ, does anybody know how to use google anymore?

so go forth, my children, and screw each other in wonderful, joyous, dirty, healthy and responsible ways. you damn well better be responsible, because one day you might have sex with me or the person i'm about to screw next. and if the person you've just dragged home from the bar or urban knitting club isn't ok with being responsible call a cab and stick them in it. believe me, you won't regret it.

Love this! In Canada, I believe a girl any age can get Plan B. They can just go to the pharmacy and ask for it. Late night drunken sex indiscretion solved!

well said, and can't be said often enough. I had to deal with an Ivy League Professor who *swore* he couldn't have given his wife an STD after screwing other women, because STDs were only passed amongst homosexuals. ... I mean, REALLY?? All I could hope was that this guy also thought that the treatment could only be taken by gays as well, so as to at least experience something of the pain he had caused.

another thought--when sex is easy and known to be fun, people tend to be more casual about it--and end up relating and just sharing rather than fucking and running for cover...

finally, why is it that hypocrisy is so deeply sanctioned by the GOP? why aren't more people REALLY LOUDLY challenging them? We try to do that here, in our liberal area, where Fracking is a biiig issue, and it is getting results... whole towns are backing away from it because of the challenges being brought.
