So I wake up this at @kekili and @nakid's place, having spent the weekend with them. They live down between San Diego and LA. I got to shot kekeli on Sunday with a big assist (in supplying the ducati and location scouting ) from nakid.
Got dropped off at the airport at about 6:30 pacific time for a wonderful day of travel. About 20 minutes into the first of 3 flights, the PA comes on and asks "is there a medical professional onboard? "oh shit", I think, " i'm going to miss my connection!". Followed soon by " oh, shit, i'm an asshole! Someone onboard might be actually in trouble and all I think about is my flights!" But we didn't see anyone rush around and flew on to Houston as expected. Hope that person was okay.
fly up to Chicago from there. My hometown!!!! I manage to find a good hotdog stand in the airport (vienna beefs!) and want to kick the guy's ass in front of me because he asks if there is ketchup available for his hotdog. Really?!?!? So I am able to get a dog and an Italian beef. So the ticket that went thru O'hare gets validated. Eventually arrive in Norfolk, Virginia, my soon to be living place. Lived here 10 years ago and wasn't really a fan--it might be better now? Sometimes I really hate my job, especially when it transfers me to places I didn't really want to go. Need to check in with Virginia DMV--vague memory of an unpaid speeding ticket from before I left--I've discovered the hard way that each state keeps tabs on you that don't transfer around. So now i am catching a cab from the airport to my hotel because I haven't driven in 5 years due to living in japan and 1. I've been in a travel/shutdown the brain mode for about 12 hours and 2. I've had a few vodkas on the flights. So I'm in the cab looking out and trying to remember living here before and seeing the difference and the driver asks me if I'm okay. I start talking to him and find out that there is an expected 4-12 inches of snow that are going to be coming down over the next day. So my hotel room overlooks thaa Atlantic and it looks shitty out there. Maybe there is a big sandbar or something but I don't remember the waves being that violent looking as they break onto hsore. I tried walking down towards the ocean but it was a bit too cold and windy for my travel clothes. The last time I was in Virginia was the day I was transferring from Norfolk up to Saratoga, NY. It was Jan 3 of 2004. the weather was about 70 as I started driving north and ended up about 15 and sleeting when I made it to NY. so I was expecting decent weather. Oops. Not this time.
Okay--enough drunken rambling. If there are cool snow pictures I will post.
PS--I'm trying to write this on a mac using firefox but it won't show anything I type unless I switch over to photo and back to blog. anyone else have this experience or a workaround?
