Halloween approaches... My favorite time of the year!!! Here in Madison we are legendary for the riots that occur on State St. every Halloween. And every year they ask the same question? What will we do to prevent them? I think there is a simple solution... All the bars close at 2:30, and at this time there is a massive drunken mob as people all leave the bars at the same time. If the bars were open all night I'm sure there would be less of a mob. But the real fun is gonna be in at my friend's barn dance where I'll be DJing and enjoying hot spiced cider, and havin a goulishly good time. Happy Halloween! And Day of the Dead !!!
As Halloween approaches, the leaves are crunchy on the ground, the smell of hearth fires wafts through the night air...and spirits of the dead shall soon be celebrated! I luuvv Halloween
Here is some philosophical mubo jumbe re. life after death, I hope you might enjoy it...
Saw the Dresden Dolls perform tonight. What a surprise, as I learned about this show from a very close friend of mine whom was the opening act: Faun Fables Wow! Its cool to see an old friend acheiving rock star status, and I was still able to hobnob amongst the celebs. Ahh the cult of personality, huh? Maybe I'll post some pics if I get around to it. She performs a gothic folk style, totally unique, reminding me of Nico and an even older, more archaic music, both haunting and beautiful. Full moon was sure nice as well...
As I bough a new copy of Rimbaud's Complete Works this weekend I thought i'd share it here. It's a bit long, and not as
crude as some of his other "illuminations" but I post it nonetheless. Perhaps I shall post one of my own someday?

I recently got a recipe for Brandy from the Balkan cookbook, which contains various strange dishes that I'm not sure I would eat unless out of necessity (things like bears head and pig brains...) I currently am making an "old world" brandy out of hand picked service berrries which are native to Canada and Northern Michigan, and are found variously throughout Wisconsin.
mmm should be yummy!
Did you ever hear this one? : All animals eat to live, except humans , the only species which lives to eat! (amongst other things I might add...)
I came very close to winning the poker tournament on Sat. but alas lady luck favored the other players... oh well, there will be more.

Taking a break from learning Johnny Cash, Audioslave and Hillbillly songs on the guitar last weekend, I received this forwarded email from my sister.

The philosopher said "Washing is an extraordinary custom, we are washed both on coming into the world and on going out of it, and we take no pleasure from the first nor any profit from the last. Many people consider that scourings supplementary to those are only due to habit. Now, habit is continuity of action, it is a most detestable thing and is very difficult to get away from. A proverb will run where a writ will not, and the follies of our forefathers are of greater importance to us than the well-being of our prosperity. The first person who washed was possibly a person seeking a cheap notoriety. Any fool can wash himself, but every wise man knows that it is an unecessary labor, for nature will quickly reduce him to a natural and healthy dirtiness again. We should seek, therefore, not to make ourselves clean, but how to attain a more unique and splendid dirtiness, and perhaps the accumulated layers of matter might, by ordinary geologic compulsion, become incorporated with the human cuticle and render clothing unnecessary."
