Uncomfortable.....
I've been working on a dance show...Now that it's over I really want to write about it. But, My roomate, who is younger than me is watching Greyzone on the T.V. A movie about the Sonder kommandos. ( Jewish world war 2 concentration camp prisoners who disposed of the bodies of the Holocaust victims. ) And I find the film distracting and alot of it makes me cringe. Often in the same way his favorite horror movies, like the Saw series do.
I'm never sure whether dramatizations of that period of time is actually helpful. I find the movies extremely uncomfortable. The dramatization of that horrific period of history. And maybe that's the point.
I'm so used to all the World War 2 documentaries. I understand that, even the old ones narrated by Lawrence Oliver. It was the only way we learnt about that time, back in school. But, I guess for younger people those old Docs must be boring or something. They need it dramatized. But, I often think it cheapens the memory of the victims of that period.

I think the same thing every time I watch something like that. And I am absolutely fascinated by WWII, everything about it. But I do think it's helpful, and necessary. So we don't forget it happened. Some dramatizations are done better than others, though, and are more respectful.
And Saw...when I saw that movie, it made me cry. Seriously. For about 20 minutes.
