Getting the relevant background in mathematics and logic to understand, even at a crude, simplistic level, the nature and structure of infinity and all the related realms opened up by modern set theory: difficult.

Trying to explain elementary mistakes about the infinite to students with absolutely no background in either logic or mathematics: infinitely more difficult.

The payoff though is having those one or two people who get the general idea and come at you with an excited look and just the right kind of question they should be asking.

Were it not for that, I would be inclined to cite Morissey re: looking for a job and then finding a job.

Are you a mathematician? Is set theory your specialism? My brother is very into set theory and number theory, he just finished his first degree in mathematics. Regarding the publishing stuff, you are probably correct that it's more of an excuse rather than a justification but with everything else that comes into play I think it's still good.
