I first met Triska over the social networking site melodramatic.com. We would end up being really close friends. One of the earliest memories I have of her was a particular tattoo. She had a tattoo of the word 'Gonzo' on the inside of her lip. For those of you who don't know, gonzo is a term coined by author/journalist Hunter S. Thompson (author of the book Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, who's likeness was played by Johnny Depp in the movie of the same name as well as Bill Murray in Where the Buffalo roam). He coined it to describe his style of journalism, which was highly subjective and very exaggerated, but also to mean strange, bizarre, or unconventional.

When I first happened on Triska's page, I went through her pictures like the creeper that I am and saw that she had this tattoo and immediately wanted to be friends with her. I've seen lip tattoos before and considered getting one, but never could think of a word that could stand on its own that would be worthy of such a position... until I saw her tattoo of course. I even told her that I was going to steal her tattoo and she of course was all for it.

When she died in a car accident last August, I was beyond shocked. It had been so long since I cried. We would talk almost every day on AIM. I couldn't grasp my head around the fact that her name would never again randomly pop up on my computer screen and with the words "tell me something" which she is notoriously known for. I'd always remember trying desperately to come up with something deep, witty, or just unusual to say, sometimes to no avail. It seemed that whenever I'd turn the tables and ask the same query, she'd always have something worthwhile to say. Anyways, to make a long story short(too late), I was determined more than ever to see those words on my lip and today, Monday December 15th, 2008, I've completed my goal. I know tattoos in this location fade, but if I have to get it redone every 7-10 years, so be it. Triska, you are worth it. Rest in Chaos. The souls of the Gonzo are never satisfied with peace. I love you.

So today, I deposited 36 dollars into my bank account, expecting that to bring my grand total in my checking account to 37 dollars and some change. I deposited the money with the intention of buying 2bg of RAM for my laptop. I haven't had a steady job for a couple months and really haven't had any money since then. I've been really wanting this computer memory for a long time.

I checked my bank account before attempting to buy the RAM and was extremely (pleasantly) surprised to see that I have just north of 1,100 dollars in my account. My tax refund had come in within the past couple weeks and direct deposited it into my bank account. While I admit that I plan on getting myself a couple toys, including the RAM upgrade I originally wanted to buy, as well as an internal hard drive and DVD superdrive for my laptop and a camcorder for my youtube videos, I'm also really happy to be able to get my mom a Christmas gift for the first time in a couple years. I usually never have money around this time of year and we really don't "celebrate" Christmas really, since she's the only real family I have(my douchebag dad who rarely makes an effort to contact me doesn't count) and I'm pretty much the only family she has close by. Most of her relatives are in Colombia still.

This gift for her really important for me because my parents have been divorced since I was like 4 years old and my mom has pretty much been raising me single handedly. She's worked really hard to make sure we lived comfortably over the past 20 years. She doesn't make a lot of money but has made sure that even when we lived in a city filled with gangs, that we lived in an area where I wouldn't have to be around that outside my window.

I've put her through a lot of shit, including having to see her only son go to jail. While I value every decision I've made and regret none of them, including the ones that have gotten me in trouble and might seem unwise to a stand-up, law abiding citizen, I do feel bad over the emotional strain they've put on her. There are times when I've thought that she deserved a "better" son, whatever that's supposed to mean. I know now that it'd be much better just to show her she did a good job with the only chance she got.

Of course, I don't plan on just stopping there. When I'm older I'd love to buy her a place in Colombia, because I know she misses her country and her family terribly. After she's given so much for me, that's the least I could do. Without her, I wouldn't be the person I am today. While I make A LOT of mistakes and have made decisions that some would find questionable, I feel like I'm a good person. I owe that to her as well, because there isn't a nicer, more honest person I've ever known in the world.

I'm an Athiest and don't believe in "Christmas" in the religious sense of the holiday and despise the consumerist attitude put forth by the American media and stores this time a year, but I do think it's good that people take the time to appreciate their family. Family for me is my mom and I'm really glad I'm in a position to put a smile on her face this year.

Note to self: Don't drink whiskey, vodka, and beer when you have class the next day.

So today I woke up at 9am with a gnarly hangover. I got showered and dressed very slowly and went to develop some pictures for my photography class. Even though I've missed a couple assignments due to not having a camera before, I feel like I'm getting the hang of it and really enjoy using my new camera. I didn't really finish my principles of design homework, which was basically my midterm, so I got an F on it today. I just have to bust my ass and do really well on the final. What sucks is that he's going to assign a lot more hand drawing assignments and I'm pretty damn horrible at that.

I also just got hired to work for my friend Gerhard, who started his own construction company. I'm still looking for a regular hourly job, but basically I'm partially working on marketing and advertising for the company as well as seeking out jobs such as remodeling businesses or homes. So if you or anyone you know in the Orange County/Los Angeles area want to get any kind of remodeling done, drop me a line.

Last week, I got over 50 subscribers on my youtube channel. Most of the people actually know and talk to me, but there have been some stray random people that also have subscribed. I think it'll kinda be hard to get a good amount just because my channel doesn't have a defined purpose. Sometimes I do video blogs about what's going on with me or social commentary on subjects like weed or politics. I also have a random guitar video of me singing and playing and responses to other channels. I'm having fun with it though and get to interact with people from all over the world, so I'm pretty satisfied. Of course I have to plug here, so here's the link.

I've been meaning to post up some pictures I've been taking with my new camera, but I've been lazy since I have a million an a half social networking sites, but I'll try to do that sometime soon. I would post a couple in this blog, but that requires me to go and resize the images so they're less than 200kB and.... yeah I'm lazy. Soon I'll put them up though.

Today is Thanksgiving! While this year, roughly 5.32 million turkeys will be killed for people's dinner tables, I will be going to a buffet. Native Foods in Costa Mesa is having a vegan buffet today and I cannot wait! If we have the stomach for it, my mom and I will also be going to Wheel of Life for dinner. It's a vegan Chinese and Thai restaurant in Irvine that has a vegan turkey every Thanksgiving. I don't expect most of the people I know IRL or online to have a cruelty-free Thanksgiving, but the least you could do is acknowledge that an animal(probably several) gave it's life for you to be chowing down with your relatives. Appreciate that, because most just eat without thinking twice or remorse. I'm hate being a preachy vegan, so I'll just leave it at appreciating the sacrifices that were made for your dinner table. If you're in Orange County and want to join me for a meal, just leave me a comment, message, or just call me if you have my number. I'd love to spend the time with some friends as well this year.

I'm so stoked for today. I received my new Canon Rebel XSi (or 450D as it's known in Europe) DSLR camera. I've been wanting a digital SLR for so long now. Flickr, Myspace, and Facebook got their updates and this site will get theirs too, since all my pictures on here are pretty much over a year old. I posted a video on youtube of my unwrapping my new camera, which is still processing at the moment. I'll post the video link when it does.

I had class yesterday. I had to carry my huge ass art bag to the bus stop to go to Costco and pick up the pictures developed for photography, then put them on a board when I was at the bus stop to go to school. My professor liked my pictures though. Fundamentals of Design was... ok. That teacher is so unorganized, though. He always just makes up the homework at the end of class and it's usually something really dumb. Now I have to take some pictures experimenting with different light sources... I have to use my mom's point and shoot but my Canan XSi should be coming in by Saturday. I'm so stoked about it. I haven't had an SLR before and I'm so looking forward to it. Other than that.... Not much. I made some soyrizo with bell pepper, mushroom, onion, garlic, and some pepper. It was really friggin good. Tomorrow is my day to make a video in my collab channel on youtube. Two things of interest happened today. I have confirmed that I will be getting a Cannon XSi digital SLR within the week and I recently started a collaboration channel on youtube with 7 other people. We'll each be posting a video once a week(making 7 videos, one for each day). I'm going to be posting on Thursdays.

If you have a youtube account, please go and subscribe to it and check us out. I also have a personal youtube channel which you can go to by clicking here.

I haven't visited this site in a very long time, but I figure it's a good a time as any to get back in the SG mood of things. Couple things that have happened... I've had a lot of trouble finding a job and my probation officer wasn't too happy that I tested dirty for weed a couple times, but I made the decision to quit smoking weed for the time being. I started at the Art Institute of California-Orange County as a Visual Effects and Motion Graphics major just yesterday. I only have two classes because it was at the late start of the Fall quarter. I should be full time in the Winter quarter. Not much else to update, but I'll try to be more involved with this site.
