We went hiking at La Perouse Bay today, the site of the last eruption in Maui. The landscape here is quite dramatic and otherworldly, I kept thinking I was hiking to Mount Doom. This photo gives an impression - the boulders are huge, the size of cars. There were many square miles of this lava field.
There were some cool rock formations at the waters edge. The arch here was about 20-30 feet high.
Some nice scenery on the hike as well. I hiked all the way out to the tip of the dark shoreline in the distance in the first photo.
After this we went to a fantastic beach, called Big Beach, the best one in Maui. Next to it was another beach called Little Beach, a nudist hangout. Not sure if there is some hidden meaning to the names :-). I had fun bodysurfing in the buff. My wife was too shy so she just watched, even though she stood out as one of the few clothed people there. I think I will go back there and spend the day, I need to make sure I have an even tan!
