hello

-splendour was massive, fun and completly debaucherous. i even had a little festival romance: we got together at dj shadow on the saturday, called it quits at the presets on the sunday, what more could you want from a festival.

- if you have ten minutes of your life to waste looking at a bunch of drug fucked people you don't know, i put some photos up here. complete with witty captions that are probably not funny to anyone.

-

that's probably the only good one

--music wise matisyahu was amazing, as was atmosphere, the only rock band i liked was the yeah yeah yeahs, i'm just not a rock music person, i gave it a go, but death cab for-wolfmother-on the radio it all sounds the same to me. man i'm having a grumpy wednesday smile. surly tom they call me. the highlight was definatly the avalanches dj set, they opened with a wicked remix of crazy by gnarls barkley that blew everyone's head off. god i love that song. and that album. and there was about 4000 people singing it at the top of their lungs. they also played some daft punk and whole bunch of other great stuff, but finsished with the greatest dj mix i've ever heard, mixing living on a prayer by jon bon jovi into drop the pressure by milo. cheesy: yes. outrageously fun and crowd pleasing: fuck yeah. greatest mix ever. they're very much on the same tip as z-trip but without needing to be respected by the hiphop community so can be as cheesy and wack as they want.

-am working very hard but going very well. i'm mixing the first episode of the ronnie johns half hour which is now on at 8:30 on ten, which i'm pretty stoked about. it's lots of fun, and i love all the people who work on it, and it's probably the biggest and hardest non-drama thing i've had to mix. so woohoo. better get back to it....

-have you seen tristram shandy? you must. it is the greatest movie of the year. along with factotum which no one else saw.

my work got broken into on the weekend. none of my stuff was taken, just a whole bunch of laptops and LCD screens and things.... kind of amazing as i work at a fairly big postproduction studio and you would think it's a junky burgler's wet dream, racks of dvd recorders, speakers worth more than most cars, plasmas, and other cool stuff, but they take the stuff that isn't replaceable like the studio managers laptop which has all her contacts, quotes and scheduling on it which they'll probably only get 500 bucks for..... i'm just relieved it wasn't me that left the alarm off.... i feel bad for my bosses, we're a small company owned by two guys who poor their everything into it, but it could have been worse. i dread someone breaking into my home and taking my turntables and computer and other sound equipment. none of it's insured and it would kill me.....

anyway, the fingerprinting police are walking around so we can't touch the walls, but my studio wasn't touched so i'm in here working on an augie march live 'n' local show. one of my favourite jobs i've done thise year. they're these video hits concert shows for sunday mornings, i spend a day mixing it all together. last week i did you am i (who i still think are garbage boring rock, but would like to have a beer with) and evermore who were surprisingly good and original and entertaining.

anyway back to work. am feeling not too flash after my attempt at a quiet weekend backfired spectacularly and repeatedly on friday, saturday and indeed sunday evening.....

have you ever had your place broken into?

do you get the sydney community college brouchure? i do, and i always flip through it looking at the bizarre courses people do, and wandering what kind of people enrol in them. really, who enrolls in a bush walking course at sydney community college. its not hard people. you just go to the bush and start walking. you poor lonely people.

however i am now one of those people. "spanish for travel" i'm doing. no doubt in my class there will be a kookily beautiful girl with big distant eyes, a folder under her arm, and a cheeky sideways smile, who'll accept my invitation for a beer after the class, and we'll practice our spanish on each other on clean white cotton sheets on a lazy sunday morning. then i'll discover she's the principle 'cellist for the sydney chamber orchestra. and happens to have it outside. and i'll ask her to play, and she'll walk over naked and get it out. and......

no doubt

-haven't had a day without work for awhile, and won't have one til

-SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS!!!! bring that on, i'm staying in a house with about 15 people, which should be interesting. i'm going to try and subsist entirely on beer, ecstasy, and bay kebabs. and i'll probably take up smoking again for the weekend going by past form.... DJ shadow.... mos def... atmosphere.... matisyahu, and a whole bunch of indy bands that i swear i'm going to keep an open mind about.... although the grates might be pushing it a bit too far smile

- having been working on all these healthy eating tv shows, like "you are what you eat," and "turn back your body clock," and "honey we're killing the kids," woohay, hollywood here i come (there's no irony smiley. someone should do something about that), but as a side product i've started eating really healthily for once. no fast food. lots and lots of vegies. and FISH. i never cook fish, but its easy, tasty and really good for you. and brocolli cauliflower and pumpkin, steamed and in a big pile. mmmmmmmm so tasty and healthy. and i feel better for it. might join a gym soon.

that paragraph was an interesting counterpoint to the one before it wasn't it.... the problem is whenever i go to a big festival or night out clubbing, i take a vacation from my regular life. not a problem as such, but it's sometimes takes a while to come back to the joys of broccolli when you've been smoking like a chimey and snorting this and dropping that and talking shit and having the time of your life....

listening to air. quality, quality music blush

decided to sign on for one more month. but probably one month only. am struggling to get my money's worth these days, can't be stuffed... although if pictures like this keep coming up. i might change my mind

wha'ts doing with you? smile

i just bought my plane ticket!!! the single most expensive (and indulgent) thing i have ever purchased. wanna hear my travel dates??? go on, you know you want to. I spent ages perfecting these, driving the lovely, bookishly cute emily from flight centre to distraction.

i'm going to San francisco first, just to check it out, and buy lots of records and chillout into the trip. then it's off to newyork, to hopefully talk about work to some people, see some edward hopper paintings, see danny tenaglia, stay with some friends, and buy lots of records. then it's off to havana, cuba via cancun, then hopefully i'll travel the length of cuba in 10 days, and catch a plane from santiago de cuba at the eastern tip of the island back to havana then back to new york to catch some good music on the saturday night. then it's a flight back to LA, where hopefully i'll talk to more people about work andl buy even more records, then fly home. whew.

sat 30 sept: syd->SF
wed 4 oct: SF->NY
mon 09 oct: NY->cancun->havana
fri 20 oct: havana->cancun->NY
sun22 oct: NY->LA
thurs->26oct LA->syd

boo ya

saw buck 65 last night, and fuck he was amazing. what an awesome original, talented musician. man crush well and truely confirmed. i giggled like a school girl after shaking his hand at the end of the set. his gorgeous wild french fiance and cohort was incredibly hot and very worthy of buck

almost as exciting as very breiflymeeting marni at long last. she rocked my world like i always knew she would. kiss

went with my ex, and it's always good to catch up every now and then to remind yourself why you broke up..... to realign the image of the person i sometimes pine for with the reality of the person i don't want to be with anymore. if that makes sense.

was a perfect night all round. i went home to bed more satisified and excited than in quite some time..... smile

and another one bites the dust

at least she had the courtesy to call me.... i was in bed reading the new david mitchell book, listening to some tom waits when the call came. doesn't think we should see each other any more, she's going overseas anyway blah blah blah.

only pissed off i didn't have the courage to say it first. the thought of sharing a bed with her had kind of repulsed me in the last week or so.... had a bad night where i lay awake, uncomfortable having flashbacks to months of such nights with my ex, had a time when i found her kissing style so repulsive it has scared me since....

we had so little in common we spend most of our time explaining our lives to each other. i know you're not defined by your job or taste in music or taste for chemical hedonism, but you do need some common ground other than conversations about sport and our mutual friends. some common passion to share and discuss.

and the sex wasn't that great either tongue

fuck it. it's a good thing. god i'm a shocker though. there's a girl who'll understand me somewhere.... over the fucking rainbow. it was good for me to dip my toe in the dating water in my new single life, to get my mojo back in the bedroom, to step outside my comfort zone briefly, to realise it's not really that big of a deal, to vow never to date an accountant again

"table top joe..... proved everyone wrong, i'm as rich as i'm famous, i'm where i belong, table top joooooe, now everyone knows, table top joe.""

god tom waits is good

ps. saw factotum tonight (the new matt dillon movie). it is fantastic. see it as soon as you can. makes you want to smoke cigerettes and drink scotch on the stained matress of a dodgy hotel room. when it finished i was pissed off. i wanted it to keep on going and going

pps. i find it harder to get the energy to leave comments or updating in this version of SG, so sorry for not doing so..... but i still loves ya smile

went to the film festival last night to see a screening of one of the short films i worked on over christmas. it was quite a thrill. it looked at sounded amazing on the big screen. and was very novel to be one of the wanky film-maker type people rather than just an observer.uts-> tropfest->sydney film festival it's got to be berlin and cannes next daaaarling wink

back on planet earth i did some work on home and away yesterday, recording the foley, which is all the little incidenetal sounds that can't be cut in. was lots of laughs, although the guy i'm working with tells people he's unemployed rather than admit to working on home and away. hehehe.

am back into my turntables again for the first real time this year, it's great to be excited and having fun with it again. it's all thanks to this one record i dug out and listened to and it inspired my to get going again. also i found a empire strikes back, record at vinnes with all the dialogue and sound effects and stuff. too much fun to scratch with.... my new demo cd is going to be funking awesome.

i love the world cup.....

-ankle had a minor fracture, not too bad, but i had crutches for a day, but mostly it's an excuse to take more sweet sweet nurofen. which i only just weened myself off taking regularly about a month ago too. oh well.

-speaking of drugs, i've been flirting with pot again. i used to be a serious pothead, smoking cones (billies in the local lexicon) daily and frequently. eventually i couldn't smoke it any more, i just got badly paranoid and unpleasant on it so i gave it away about the time i started getting my shit together. anyway, had a party here a couple of weeks ago and a friend accidentally left a bowl and a pipe in the house, which like a guilty teenager a grabbed and hid in my room. so recently i been having the occasional pipe late at night, quietly reliving my teenage years by waiting til my flatmates go to sleep and blowing the smoke out the window. all good, no complaints. it's helped me get to sleep when i'm stressed out and even the night after i fucked my ankle.

of course this brief honey moon didn't last long, and i had a few too many tokes at a late night board gaming session on monday evening (hey, board games are cool now okay. get on board) and it all came flooding back. fuckin hate the shit. felt like crap all week from it.

-go the socceroos. i love the world cup

-new girl going quite well. the whole meeting girls 8 weeks before they go to live overseas thing is excellent. i highly recommend it. however she has a habit of using the tongue too much. in kissing and then worst of all she licks all over my ear. arousing at first, but getting kind of off-putting. how do you go about breaking this to a partner? "get that thing out of my goddam ear?" or do you do the same thing to her so she knows that is sounds and feels like a tiny fish is slithering down you ear canal.

-booking my ticket tomorrow for my october trip to the northern hemispher. it'll be sydney-SF-NY-LA-mexico city-havana-mexico city-LA-sydney. that's alot of time on planes. can't wait. still can't decide on how long to spend in each spot. what do you reckon?

busted my ankle at basketball last night. went up for a rebound and came down on someone's foot and collapsed in a heap.think i should go and get some x-rays...

i don't know about you guys but as soon as something like this happens, no matter how old i get, i'm straight on the phone to mum. it'll be scary when there's no mum to turn to to ask for medical advice....

so i'm sitting here at work with my foot bandaged up, matrying myslef as always. most people would have stayed at home but not me... noooo. i always have to go to work. i've got a long history of this shit.

incident one:

i'm working at a gourmet pizza shop, my first real job outside of school. i was a kitchen hand, showing out my blistering knife work cutting some chicken, still a little stoned from the previous evening's bout of bongs and nintendo (hey i was 18, my entire social life revolved around bongs and nintendo. and a girl who i used to go and shag, then leave her and go and meet my friends for bongs and nintendo. why did she put up with it?) anyway. i'm chopping chicken a waiter friend distracts my, and before you know it, i've chopped off the top of my middle finger, half way down the finger nail. that feeling of sharp chef's knife going thrugh your flesh isn't something you forget quickly.

anyway, it's bad, i'm bleeding, in shock and have a bit of my finger on the chopping board. i manage to take myself to the local medical centre, where they procede to SOLDER my finger back together as you can't do stiches on a finger. and yes, FUCK it hurt. so after all this trauma and with my finger bandaged up. what do i do?

go back to work. you'd think cutting your finger off would pretty much entitle you to a afternoon on the couch and some sick pay, but nooooooo. i always have to go to work. damn protestant work ethic.

incident two:

i'm working as a deckhand on a big yacht in the mediterranean. it's the day before we sail for or first charter. long story short, i crash the boat's motorino into a light pole on the only corner of an otherwise straight road. bust my knee and my ego. go back to work with a knee with no ligaments. on a boat. with slippery decks. for the first month it would pop out about three times a day..... but i kept workin.....

jesus.... and here i am today, when i should be at home on the couch playing shenmue 2.... on the flip side i do get to hang out with the power rangers actresses all day. and one of them, melanie vallejo, is so offensively beautiful and funny she has been fall in love with her on the streets smile

what have you broken and how?
