Do you remember when changing a light bulb was not a life threatening event? You just changed the light bulb. If you dropped the bulb, you just said "Damn," and cleaned it up. Now, if you drop a bulb, you have to evacuate the house, and replace the carpet, and have haz met clean your house.
These is due to the new CFL light bulbs. CFL means "compact fluorescent lamp," or "curly fry light bulb," I forget which. Why do we use them? I hear two reasons. First, they last longer. Second, they create less heat. In my experience, both are false. But,if you break one,you might die!
Yes! I love government regulation! Luckily, they are no longer the law of the land. So, I will replace burned out CFLs with the old light bulbs, which last longer and are not dangerous.
My scathing and devastating rebuttal to President Bully's SOTU will appear in a few days. It will take a little while to filter out all the lies and stupidity.

I've found that CFL bulbs usually do last longer, though whether that and their lower energy use justify their higher price is an open question. They do generate heat - the bulb itself isn't quite as hot as an incandescent bulb, but the base of the CFL does get as hot - and I can definitely do without the mercury! When they first came on the market, I didn't use them for long, because the first one that burned out literally burned out.
