My first post.
I have had a couple of really good week ends. Any day I can watch football all day is a good one. So, last Saturday and sunday were no good.
One interesting thing on Sunday, though. Seantor McCain was on Meet the Press. Tim Russert noted that he was far ahead in polls against Hillary Clinton. He asked McCain if he makes his staff call him Mr. President. McCain responded "I make them sing Hail to the Chief. My staff can call me John or Your Majesty."
I amy be wrong about this, but I think McCain might be moving back to the right. That "Maveric Republican" reputation is not going any place. He is advocating lower taxes and lower spending. The President only got half of that right. McCain is also backing off gun control.
In order to win the primaries, McCain will not win by just saying "I can beat anyone the Democrats nominate." That never works. Gary Hart said he could beat President Reagan, but the Democrats still nominated the hapless Walter Mondale. McCain will need to establish his conservative credentails, wich, in the past, have been pretty good.
If he does manage to energize the Republican base, I think he will lock up the nomination early, and become a pretty good president. In any case, he will be much better than anyone the Deomcrats nominate.
I think I would still rather have Condi Rice.
I am concerned about the lack of news regarding Carlos Ruiz. The transfer windo was has closed, but he has not resigned his contract with FC Dallas. He is a bit of a flake, but when his spikes hit the pitch, he is an ace.
Just sign him. With Coach Clark ready to bring in a new left wing, and Richard Mulrooney just about ready to go, FCD could put together a great side. With the MLS Cup in Frisco again, there may not ever be a better time.
