So I just had a conversation with a friend, and she's one of those people who think there's someone out there for everyone, and I said well there is also the possibility there isn't someone out there for everyone. And she accused me of being negative. So I said, ok, it's like saying with how large the universe is, there has to be other intelligent lifeforms out there. Of course the odds are in the favour that there is, but there's also the possibility, however unlikely, there isn't. She seemed to understand my point after that.
Is it so negative to look at both sides of any possibility? I don't think so, but I always get accused of being negative or being a pessimist if I also look at the so called downside of anything. Frankly I think it's irresponsible to only be optimistic on everything, cause you'll never prepare for the worst, cause in your mind, the worst isn't in the realm of possibility.
