I've noticed, though, that the 'wants to be a suicidegirl' photosets are the only ones with heavy set girls in them. which is sad. not because it's sad whenever a heavy girl does the "hey, I'm just as sexy as a skinny girl!" (which is sad because it's a delusion; the idea of 'pretty' is constructed not to include heavy bodies), but because it's pretty clear that the SG folks aren't into letting "alternative" bodies become suicidegirls unless they're totally normative bodies with tattoos.
unless it's just a coincidence that the overwhelming majority of the SGs are thin, white, and of a certain class position. or maybe that's what being progressive really is? it's being a white supremacist, just never acknowledging it.

which is to say that the participation in something counter-cultural (like SG) is just as much an exercise of white privilege as any mainstream/quotidian/square cultural expression, but it carries with it the additional insult of feigning critical engagement with the world around it.
