Just posted a new set. I feel so privilaged to have been able to photograph these two friends, who clearly have great chemistry. I'd love some feedback on these...

Well bugger me! I went to the Dollar Store to by some tent pegs for our camping trip on the busiest long weekend of the year. What do I find? The camping section has been replaced by Christmas. WTF? We've not even had Halloween yet.
Well, here I am, just back from my camping trip and of course we had rain every day.
What is it about people? We arrived at the campsite in the mountains on Monday evening. The site was completely empty. We spent a happy evening in front of a fire, toasting marsmallows and dwelling on how wonderful it was to be in the mountains with not another person in sight. Well, the next day we're not the only people on site. A familly with a tent and hoardes of small children arrived and camped right next to us. The whole site to choose from and they camped next to us! I didn't really mind, their kids were good. But why next to us? Then, later that day another familly arrived and camped next to them. The whole site to choose from and there are three families in a row.
But what got me most was that they had brought their cat. Who brings a cat camping in a tent?
Rant over - here's a couple of pics of our major objective fior the trip. Mount Edith Cavell in the Canadian Rockies.

I got a photo assignment today for the Maple Leaf Mision. That's great news!
The MLM is a society that started here in Canada that provides free photo sessions for families of people with a terminal illness, debilitating congenital condition and for families of military personel going on deployment. Those of you who are interested can check out their web site:
http://themapleleafmission.ca/
Although the society started in Canada they age going global with photographers in the US and Australia.
I'm now looking forward to a photo session with a young lady with a very rare genetic condition. It's going to be a somewhat humbling experience but very worthwhile.

Well, this is the first time I find myself writing about something like this. An old friend of mine committed suicide yesterday and I'm still trying to work out how I feel. He was an old friend (12 years or so) and a good friend, but not necessarily a close friend. He wasn't the sort of person that's easy to get close to and we've been separated by the Atlantic Ocean for a number of years. Nonetheless I'm sorry to see him go and I get a lump in my throat when I think about him.
I wonder what it is that makes people take their own lives. He'd been struggling to pay his mortgage through the recession and was working long hours at a low paid job in order to make ends meet. But he was a dedicated family man. I wonder what it was that led him to the conclusion that his family would be better off without him. I guess we never know how we're going to react until we're put in that kind of position ourselves.
RIP.
