Tonight is White Trash Night at la casa de mfb.

My parents never let me have all the amazing food that everybody else got, growing up. They were all "healthy this" and "vegetables that". To spite them, I make appallingly unhealthy things like caramel applesauce pie (which is fucking amazing). You can tell it's not my natural mode of food preparation, though, because I get all gourmet and shit with it.

Tonight I make chili con 'tatoes. It's like chili con queso, but you pour it over tater tots. At least, that's the traditional version. I fried up some ground chuck, spiced it with cumin, paprika, black pepper, and red pepper flakes, and sauteed some chopped onion and green and red peppers. I melted it all in a brick of Velveeta in the microwave, topped the tater tots with it, and then topped that with sour cream. Then I shouted "gourmet" over it.

My arteries have literally ripped themselves out of my skin and are attempting to strangle me as I type this. Literally (fuck you it's white trash night) they are doing that. They best settle or I'm gonna dip 'em in the leftover queso for a midnight snack.

My mom used to bake fresh bread and put things like healthy, homecooked roast beef sandwiches with a side of salad, an apple, and milk in my thermos. I assumed she did it because she hated me and wanted me not to fit in with the other kids and their baloney or PBJs on white. Fast food did happen but it was such a rarity that I can totally relate...

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

not enough to stoop to chili con taters though. There are certain lines in the sand I will not cross.

I love how you're always first into the breech on subjects that follow the pattern of having a demonstrably positive liberal-oriented goal, but seem to be taking a poorly-conceived or rife with unintended consequences approach to reaching that goal .

Really. I do. Have I mentioned that lately?

I'm always in my under-roos, smoking a cigarette, debating if it's worth the hassle of trying to sensibly argue a counter-position that simultaneously supports the goal while arguing with the methods. If I'll be able to do so without losing my cool, before finally, giving up, leaning back and deciding it's probably just not worth the hassle, even if a successul and mutually amicable conclusion can be reached with the multiple people with whom I share more ideals than not, but occasionally disagree.

Hmm. Having written all that, it now feels like a moral cowardice that I'm not comfortable knowing I have, rather than a utilitarian analysis of where to best expend my energy and time.

Also?

JESUS. That shit will fucking kill you, and you're like thirty-seven times healthier than me.

Request:

Convince me to read all the Black Company books without spoilers. I'm afraid to read the thread in the Fantasy group.

I love A Song Of Ice and Fire. Had problems with Prince Of Nothing.
