My boss came by my desk and said “I have some good news and some bad news.” I said “Okay, what’s the good news?” She said “I’m going to approve that pay raise you requested.” I said “Really? Wow… that IS good news. Thank you.” She said “You’re welcome. You earned it.” I said “Okay, so what’s the bad news?” She said “Well, due to low earnings last month, we need to make some spending cuts around here. Sooo… you know that raise I just gave you?
