I've been doing some night photography and added a new album, check it out, what do you think?

Another image in the White Board Series. There are a total of 24 you can view some of the others in the White Board folder.

THE BONFIRE'S VANITY

THE BONFIRE'S VANITY
Time for a new blog. Here is an image I worked on today. I shot it on Congress Street in Austin a month or so ago.

Have you washed your dishes yet?
It comes from a book by Alan Watts. "The Way of Zen," or maybe,
Psychotherapy East and West." Published in 1957 and 1961 respectively.
Who even knows who he was today? Old Hippies?
The story went something like this:
A novice, meditating till dawn, sitting on a hillside, under the stars,
clouds passing, called the sacred syllable all night long.
Frustrated and tired, wondering why keep trying, doubting
he could ever find enlightenment, approached the Master.
"How can I ever learn the meaning of life?" he asked the Master.
The Master replied, "Have you washed your dishes yet?"

All images in the White Board series are derived from this one, including the one at the top.
View the album if you have the time.
It has been said there are two kinds of people in this world:
Was it Federico Fellini who said this? That is my recollection.
Preachers and poets and scholars don't know it
Temples and statues and steeples won't show it
If you've got the secret just try not to blow it
Takers and fakers and talkers won't tell you
Teachers and preachers will just buy and sell you
When no one can temp you with heaven or hell -
you'll be a lucky man,
Alan Price 1973

"Is my team ploughing,
That I was used to drive
And hear the harness jingle
When I was man alive?"
Ay, the horses trample,
The harness jingles now;
No change though you lie under
The land you used to plough.
"Is football playing
Along the river shore,
With lads to chase the leather,
Now I stand up no more?"
Ay, the ball is flying,
The lads play heart and soul;
The goal stands up, the keeper
Stands up to keep the goal.
"Is my girl happy,
That I thought hard to leave,
And has she tired of weeping
As she lies down at eve?"
Ay, she lies down lightly,
She lies not down to weep,
Your girl is well contented.
Be still, my lad, and sleep.
"Is my friend hearty,
Now I am thin and pine,
And has he found to sleep in
A better bed than mine?"
Yes, lad, I lie easy,
I lie as lads would choose;
I cheer a dead man's sweetheart,
Never ask me whose.

I await my fate hunched over like a great ape. My back is out form wrenching luggage in and out of trunks on a recent trip east. I can't quite straighten up and soon, maybe this week or next, some will be sacrificed for the greater good of the corporation, i.e. the CEO's bonus.
Some say life is supposed to be fun, but in what ancient book of wisdom do you find that? Of course it can be a long way between supposed and is. But I suppose from the right point of view it could all be seen as fun - from getting blown up by an IED to sleeping with Paris Hilton. IED to IUD - the poles of experience available to today's American male. Little different than it's always been, I suppose.
You get philosophical when you're facing a layoff.
