In February I saw:
Zodiac
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead
Diabolique
Henri-Georges Clouzot's Inferno
In Bruges
Stranger Than Paradise
Dogtooth
Get Shorty
Birdemic
The Social Network
The King's Speech
Black Swan

And I revisited:
Seven
Koyaanisqatsi
Strange Brew
Smokey and the Bandit
Rumble in the Bronx
My Cousin Vinny

And on side note, here's some Braid. (which by the way, is one of the best games ever and I've heard is only $1 in the Mac App Store today and possibly tomorrow)

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

World 2: Time and Forgiveness

Tim is off on a search to rescue the Princess. She has been snatched by a horrible and evil monster. This happened because Tim made a mistake.

Not just one. He made many mistakes during the time they spent together, all those years ago. Memories of their relationship have become muddled, replaced wholesale, but one remains clear: the princess turning sharply away, her braid lashing at him with contempt.

He knows she tried to be forgiving, but who can just shrug away a guilty lie, a stab in the back? Such a mistake will change a relationship irreversibly, even if we have learned from the mistake and would never repeat it. The princess's eyes grew narrower. She became more distant.

Our world, with its rules of causality, has trained us to be miserly with forgiveness. By forgiving them too readily, we can be badly hurt. But if we've learned from a mistake and became better for it, shouldn't we be rewarded for the learning, rather than punished for the mistake?

What if our world worked differently? Suppose we could tell her: 'I didn't mean what I just said,' and she would say: 'It's okay, I understand,' and she would not turn away, and life would really proceed as though we had never said that thing? We could remove the damage but still be wiser for the experience.

Tim and the Princess lounge in the castle garden, laughing together, giving names to the colorful birds. Their mistakes are hidden from each other, tucked away between the folds of time, safe.

I'm trying to watch more movies this year.

In January I saw some films for the first time:
Delicatessen
Dirty Harry
The Super Cops
Wild at Heart
Thunderbolt and Lightfoot
Miami Blues
The Elephant Man
A Life Less Ordinary
Cold Souls
The Driver
American Graffiti

Some other films I revisited:
Animal House
Duel
Scott Pilgrim vs The World
The Room
Brazil
True Romance

That's 17 movies. 11 of them new.
I highly recommend Miami Blues if you haven't seen it yet.

Monday I'm going to Seven & Zodiac at the New Beverly if you want to join me. Other movies soon.

UPDATE:
So. A few weeks ago, my girlfriend and I realized we were using the same toothbrush.

Yesterday we realized that we had both switched to the same other one.
we're so good.

this is a blog about realizations.

i realized that conversation is a form of improv.
this is a horrible thing to realize as now I often stop conversations by announcing "this isn't funny. this is stupid."

also, because of my girlfriend's and my very different sleeping schedule, we rarely brush our teeth at the same time. Recently our toothbrushing schedules lined up and we realized that we've been using the same toothbrush as each other for weeks. leaving the other one completely untouched.

i had one more thing but i realized that i forgot it.

EDIT: I remembered. I realized that my cats and I don't really have that much in common and I'm starting to wonder why we get along so well.

no no. not the movie. the evolutionary process whereby a population becomes better suited to its habitat.

good job, facebook.

fuck i need to get out more. or actually document my life better on here. let's try that second one.

my last week

  • I was a guest on a radio program this weekend.

  • I got hired to videotape an intimate variety show with the surprise guest the amazing johnathan. I've always wanted to see him live and it was rough not laughing while holding the camera.

  • I did what I (and a few others) have called the best editing of my life

  • I met a girl a few years ago who first weekend I met her exploded at me that she would never make out with me and she doesn't know why people do.

  • ^ I made out with her on monday.

  • I went to the opening of a fancy pants wine bar. A wine drinking asshole in a pink collared shirt told his wine drinking asshole friends about a great bar he knows about: King Eddy's.

  • ^ SGLA is too scared to make their monthly meeting there.

  • I caught up with my old friend Tiffany with drinks in Griffith Park

  • The establishing shot of the new Mortal Kombat video is across the street from me.

  • I'm getting a free upgrade to Avid Media Composer 5 (the fools!)

  • and a threesome! yay! high five!

That's all I can think of right now. I'm sure there's more.

The bar downstairs from my office has a late night happy hour. 11pm to midnight. a big glass of maredsous is only $4. If you're in my neighborhood, call me and let's catch up.
