Instead of a halloween costume, I spent the month building a pool house with my girlfriend's father. (and my girlfriend and her mother helped with the finishing).
I'm really damn pleased because I've never really built anything. It's amazing to do something that lets you completely rethink what you can do.

Congratulations! That's quite an accomplishment. I'm really impressed by this. When you said you were going to be building a pool house, I really had no idea what you meant, and was thinking you meant something considerably less ambitious.

I hope to be doing lots of things that make me rethink what I can do over the next year. The tricky bit is that doing that, by definition, starts with thinking you can't do something and then setting about doing it anyhow.

That's very cool. Looks like you did a really good job. And yeah - your enthusiasm shows - as it should!

Were you working from a design you or he found or was it part of 'kit?'

Wow. Nice find. So, for slicing and dicing your own wood, you save so much and get so much more. And it's absolutely gratifying. Kudos! I think that deserves a beer! Or two... or three!

Looks like you did a great job, and apparently your girlfriend's father must be crazy to trust you with power tools!

I would love to be this competent or be able to just fix my car when it's broken.

That's pretty damn awesome, and a hell of an accomplishment. It's also a good sign that your girlfriend's family trusts you with a nailgun.

Fantastic. It's certainly something I can agree with. Building things is really fun. In fact I love it so much I made it my entire life. biggrin

An LA TechShop branch is in the works, probably about a year out by now, maybe less.
