Shana Tova...

Happy Rosh Hashanah, as my husband so kindly reminded my backslidden hateful ass. I tend to fail miserably at these high holy days. I was less than kind in response. Why? I almost believe it to be my nature to be as vile and venomous as possible to those that love me. It's an absolute compulsion as deeply rooted and involuntary and respiration and the beating of my own heart. There is my shot at introspection. I'm not at all a nice person. I never claimed to be one and reap the karmic benefits of someone who behaves as I do. This is a day to be repentant, and yet I find myself sitting stoic and silent. Waiting for what? There is no special celebration in my house. No effort at holiday meals, prayers, not even a feeble attempt at taschlich. Complacency is what I'm good at. Watching the world fall apart around me, bitching as it falls and yet lacking the ability to do anything to stop it.

I think I have some apples and some honey. It's not a proper meal, but symbolic of the day. Perhaps a peace offering and an opening to ask for some kind of forgiveness.

not quite sunset yet.

I once had a boss who found me somewhat more absent minded during the days between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. It was true.I have my reasons.

For now, an attempt at a sweet beginning for this year. It is all I want.

Just a thought before settling in for the debate......
Time to make some martini's.

1. Every guest gets two drinks, of different types. Every time Obama says "change", switch drinks. Every time McCain says "change", drink more of the same.
2. Each time a moderator/commentator makes mention of how "cool and calm" Obama appears, take a drink (preferably of the frozen drink variety).
3. Each reference to McCain's years as a P.O.W. - salute the tv, then drink
4. Each reference to Obama's community organizing - organize a community waterfall (for use only with groups… obviously)
5. Drink if either candidate's answer to the first (or last) question starts with, "Thank you for having us here tonight…"
6. Drink when any candidate talks about some fictional or real person and their problems. (likely something involving a choice between diabetes medication and gas for her trip to see her blind grandchildren.)
7. Take one drink per each friend who couldn't make it to the party every time one of your buddies complains that Nader isn't in the debate.
8. Any time McCain says "Fight", steal your neighbor's drink
9. An IMMEDIATE pint-of-beer chug if McCain adds the creepy smile to his blinking.
10. The big one- drink if either says "terrorist"
11. Every time we here McCain say "my friends," don't drink. We will get alcohol poisoning.

there may be a problem...

sometimes existence
is monochromatic and flimsy...

your meals
leave you yearning and hollow;

your lover
wears a mask of indifference;

music is
flat like pre-Columbian Earth;

surrounding landscapes
resemble theater backdrops;

your epiphanies
are vapid and pedestrian;

writing about it
lacks gist and vitality;

your mirror
reflects a hollow oily envelope;

... found the problem.

I've never done a thing.
Middle-aged and boring.
Fear is my middle name.

a question,
what is the most fearless thing you've done?

I've gone and gotten old. It's true. I bent to pick something out of the floor without using proper body mechanics and well, all hell broke loose. There was a sickening pop and I was literally stuck bent over for a few minutes and I have been in complete misery since that moment. Pure disbelief here. I bent at the waist and I have never had this kind of enduring pain in my life! After the first two nights with barely a wink of sleep I managed the day off work to go see to the doc in the box.... due to my "history" I get no anti-inflamatory drugs, but have enough narcotics to drop a horse. What good is being this stoned if I am in pain? surreal surreal surreal Now for the funny part: I am supposed to be off work for 3 more days and not do any heavy lifting. shocked Not possible. I sometimes wonder what fantasy world physicians live in to think one can just take off for 3 days or not lift?

On that note I guess it's time to get to work and start lifting patients and coils......
