it starts at home. what do you have laying around that someone else could really use?

-raid your house for nonperish food & ingredients, extra gloves, scarves, hats, blankets, jackets, etc & bring em out to your city's #ows occupation. they may need utensils, plates, mugs, etc- just ask!

-donate stacks of old magazines to a local city school to use in art class. no matter the subject, young artists will happily take scissors to page to add to collages or use as inspiration.

-start a mug collection at work. less styrofoam waste, more space in your cupboards at home.

-call local animal shelters & hospitals & ask what supplies they need. you'll be surprised how much of it is things you already have stashed in a closet.

-dont put furniture on the side of the road to be destroyed by the elements & wandering animals. call around to second-hand places to find one that will come pick up furniture (often, they'll do it for free). no luck there? take a photo of it & list it on craigslist for free under the condition that the new owner will come pick it up on their own.
