Spontaneously I decided to check out the Of Montreal show in Philly last night. I don't know a whole lot about them, but they definately put on a good show. They're kind of 60's retro/powerpop/barbershop. Good head-bobbing, jumping up and down in place music.
The opening band was called "Management" and was interesting. They were just two guys who danced around and sang over pre-recorded synth-beats. Not particularly impressive stuff but there is always a certain amount of charm when people are willing to get up on stage and do what any two random people out of the audience could have done. They did provide a few decent pop hooks.
The only downside was the venue. It was the basement of a Unitarian Church that was really hot and stuffy, and packed to the rafters (Of Montreal seems to have quite a following among the college set) and after a while the funk just became overwhelming (you know what kind of funk I'm talking about.)
I have to go to more shows. Anyone else been to any decent ones lately?
