Naming.
Deciding on a name for your child is easily one of the hardest things a person can do.
What increases the difficulty is that EVERYONE has an opinion. "Name her something normal, she'll have to live with it for the rest of her life", "Name her something unique, I was one of FIVE <insert common name>'s in my classes all growing up and it SUCKED."
My family would never even consider ASKING me to name my child something. I mean my mom will give me suggestions if I ask, but she would never consider pulling me aside to say "Will you please name her after <insert dead family member's name>" We have more than enough tragic stories in our family, and more than enough loved ones who's names could be considered.
So far SEVERAL of mydogfarted's family members have asked us to name our daughter a bunch of different names. Today we were asked not "Would you consider this name?" but "Will you choose this name?" and the person actually seemed to expect and answer immediately. Each person has a very valid reason for their choice. Each person sincerely wants to honor the person who's name they've chosen. Each person needs to FUCK OFF.
I'm carrying the baby, it's not easy. I realize that MDF doesn't have the option of carrying the child. BUT if I want to honor someone, I think that it's only fair that it gets to be someone from MY side of the family. We're already honoring MDF's family by giving the baby his family name.
