So I'm a bit late on this, but let's talk about the Justice League movie. Here is a handy roundup courtesy of CinemaBlend of all the rumors and what not that Warner Brothers has released so far. I think this a terrible idea actually, and I don't think it should happen, for lots of reason.
First is that DC doesn't have the success (critically or financially) to justify a movie like Justice League. The Batman franchise is really the only character from DC to even have a lucrative transition to the big screen. And yes, Superman had his own series as well and it is (mostly) remembered fondly for what it is, but when DC was looking to capitalize on comic book movies resurgence they went with Batman first. And it was the abysmal Superman Returns that has granted us the second re-imagining, reboot, whatever the fuck they're calling it in seven years. But to be fair, it did much better than Green Lantern So of the things they've tried, Warner Brothers has one clear success, one nostalgic series with a terrible modern addition and uncertain reboot and one complete failure. And that's record that they want to build on to rival The Avengers. Good luck with that.
And than there's the Wonder Woman movie. Or more precisely, the complete lack thereof. You simply can't have a Justice League movie without her and I feel that the people in charge of Warner Brothers would only see a Wonder Woman movie as a means to an end. And honestly, I'd rather not have it exist than have be made under those circumstances. If a Wonder Woman movie fails (or even if it "under preforms") than you can kiss women centered superhero movies goodbye. Hollywood executives will bring out their tired bullshit slogans about how nobody wants to see female centered films and how want audiences are really clamoring for is a remake of Steel. (If that seems over the top to you, consider how surprised the industry was at the success of Bridesmaids, it was if "women are funny too" was an unprecedented concept.) We owe it to ourselves that a Wonder Woman movie gets made for the right reasons, and not as some desperate cash grab to set up an even bigger cash grab.
I understand why WB wants to make Justice League, I really do. They (along with pretty much everyone else) got caught flat-footed by how massive a success The Avengers was. And since they own the rights to the competing comic publisher, they want their own super hero team movie too. But that desperate attempt to cut in on Marvel's market share won't make for very good movies; so please Warner Brothers, save yourselves the money and embarrassment and just quit now before you fail as badly as everyone expected Marvel to.
