So, I got to Belgium a month ago. I've totally been neglecting SG, even though I made a promise to myself to finally start keeping my profile on here up to date. The problem is, I spend most of my time online lately on Facebook because I'm constantly keeping family & friends back home updated with everything going on over here. Add the fact that my only internet up until a few days ago was tethering through my Droid, and you can see why my "online presence" has been somewhat minimal lately. Well, I finally got DSL in my temporary living situation, so things are feeling at least a little bit more "normal" again.
I've been stuck living in Army barracks since I got here. It sucks balls. I thought Air Force dormitory rooms were bad. Talk about the bare essentials. It's basically a bed, desk & dresser. At least I've got a private bathroom. I guess I should be happy with that considering it's Army living. For some reason, the room also has a full size refrigerator, yet no way to heat anything up or cook. I finally got DSL in my room this week, so at least I've got something "normal" going on.
There's two reasons I've been stuck here. First, my shipment from home hasn't got here yet, so I still only have what I flew here with. More importantly, my Jeep hasn't gotten here yet. Even if my stuff was here, I can't move off-base until it does. If my jeep got here before my stuff, I'd go ahead & move off-base. I don't even care if my shit is here. I can live off base with what I have, no matter where I move. I just need to be able to get around.
So there's a quick update. It's sort of like Groundhog's Day. I got to work every day & come back to my room when I get off. Getting a ride with coworkers for lunch is the highlight of my day. LOL I'm cool though. I just keep reminding myself it's temporary, and as soon as I can move off-base, things will get better. Should be any day now.
