I'm luvin music at the moment. been discovering sludge metal and mathcore....somehow got there from desert rock. I've been surprising myself. I can listen to really heavy shit now, especially at the gym or when workin on a solitary project at work. Hardcore music used to confuse me, give me a headache even. But I'm basking in it now. especially Mastadon, Unida, Torche, Isis, Kylesa. and the list goes on.
Also been rediscovering Tool. They are hands down my all time favourite band. no doubt. Maynard Keenan rocks. I luv how he sings about hating ego and vanity, and how he notes the stupid shit humans just continue to do - ever increasingly. I've had an intense relationship with that band - I fell in luv with Aenima as the soundtrack in '98. She bought me the self-felatio shirt and all. I should have known she was the one when I found out she luved Tool (and beer).
First time I heard Hooker with a Penis, I owned a pair of new jeans and had just got a tat and nipple ring. ahhh Maynard, and his ability to reach through my stereo and clip me.
anyway, dont want to sound too wanky but Tool will be remembered as a great band. you can talk about them at the same time as Neil Young, Pink Floyd, and Rage. Maybe not Hendrix.
Everytime I listen to an album I can hear it in a different way.
Its fukin tough music, and heart renching and delicate too. His voice can convey fear, and sadness then churn and turn into confusion, anger and focused tirade. He means it when he sings it. And Danny Carey is a genius drummer.
defintely part of the soundtrack of my life. I was lucky that I had 3 of their albums to play at university.
big ups to Tool.
NB. wish I could purchase his wine from Oz though.
