For some reason this has been running through my head recently - stuck on a loop like a record with a scratch in it:
What a piece of work is a man, how noble in reason, how
infinite in faculties, in form and moving how express and
admirable, in action how like an angel, in apprehension how like
a god! the beauty of the world, the paragon of animalsand yet,
to me, what is this quintessence of dust? Man delights not me
nor woman neither...
What a piece of work - that is, what a creation. Whether by random chance, the infinitesimally small probability that we would sprout from the muck and slime and grow to walk on two legs and try and master the planet. Or is it, rather, that we are a work in what we do - the choices we make and the impact we have on each other and the world?
Noble, infinite, express and admirable. Tonight - just in the time that it takes to write the one sentence at least one person will be murdered. Think about this fact. Noble, infinite, and admirable. In that same time, a life will be saved; a baby born; and we as a species will continue into the future. Which side of the coin do we watch? How do we acknowledge them both while not focusing on that which impacts us so heavily; the negatives...
The bible states that we are made in the image of god. So many religious texts have this phrasing. But further, most have us actually created out of the Earth...how then, is being the quintessence of dust a negative? Does this not move us closer to the state of our creation? Does this not engender in us the infinite possibilities of that moment of conception? When all things are possible and nothing is fixed?
I ramble. I apologize. Enjoy the rest of your evening.
That is all.
