Just last week I had a condo board meeting and we had to deal with a problem landlord in the building. She came to the meeting to answer the charges against her and I noticed that she had NO fingernails at all. It was painful and icky just to look at. I wondered if she had done it on purpose or if they had fallen off and I was doing a good job of blotting from my mind. Now it comes flooding back....Yikes

Haha. That happened to me once, but it didn't come out of nowhere as it sounds like yours did. I played a rugby game in boots that were a size too small and a few days later my big toenails started turning purple and then eventually they fell off and the stuff underneath was just as you describe--more protective than skin but way more sensitive than nail. It was ooky, but I survived.
