I read Tarzan of the Apes recently.
I've got two things to say. One, jeebus, we've garbled that story to hell and back in less than a century. That whole "Me Tarzan, you Jane" bit? Not even mentioned once. The first language he picks up, of all things, is French, and by that point he's running around Paris and later Wisconsin, driving cars and wearing clothes.
Secondly, Burroughs has a wonderful style of writing, especially when portraying anyone with any sort of personal code or sense of chivalry. People just don't write like that anymore.
