raced in black history alley cat this evening. I placed 10th. My brother placed 11th. I pulled the whole way. his fitness is not what he would like it to be. The Race stared in Sweet Auburn District at Pal's grill. the check points were places of black historical significance. the route I took was 12.56 miles. There was one person that bettered that by about half a mile. Their group came 5th - 8th. I just realized the route they took and it was better than mine. in distance and hills. Oh well. Next week is the Broken Hearts ally cat benefiting SOPO Bike Coop. That will be fun.

Im tired an must sleep.

Listening to a story about Henrietta Lacks and the cancer cells that she had that will not die. The first thing that I saw was in Scientific Americans in '82 or so. It is interesting piece on Fresh Air with Terry Gross.

Thr piece is here to listen to.

I finally put my new track bike together. It is a Planet X Stealth Track bike. It rides well and is very stiff. I am looking forward to racing this but getting my body to work well on it will take lots of work. Yuck! Training. Looks like a good day tomorrow to go for a long ride.

This last Saturday I went to a friend's birthday party. It was the wife of one of my girlfriend's best friends. It was at their house, which is an 19th century mill that was remodeled as a house. It is a great space wit a creek and lots of woods. I spent most of the time chatting with Ben and Lindsey. We had not seen them for a couple of years. So there was a good bit of catching up. I chatted with some of the other folks too but was uncomfortable since I didn't feel that I had that much in common with anybody else there.
GRRR!

It was a pot luck and I brought some kale, which was a hit. I was going to bring sweet potatoes, but we ran out of time. Now I have about 3 pounds of sweet potato to do something with. Sweet Potato Salad comes to mind. Maybe I'll make it tomarrow so we have it for the weekend.

Saturday we may go see BB King and Buddy Guy at the Tabernacle. A girl I work with will sell them to me at a loss (because I can't afford full price) so that they are used. We'll see.

I'm finally tired enough to sleep.
Good night!

I just went to the track for the first time this year. I'd done most of my workouts on rollers. A long session of constant speed. The first time is always the worst. the legs just don't want to change effort like that. Maybe I'll go in a couple of weeks with my brother so he can find his track legs.

New bike on the way. I have a bunch of parts to put on it. The wheels will be ready next week, or the week after. No rush.

I've been nominated for the "Lust List" for the valentine's edition of Creative Loafing. We'll see how that goes. I have been given the nickname of "Luscious" by my boss. It could be worse.

Dinner was vegetarian barbecue. the sauce was good ... after I added allot more vinegar, paprika, hoisin sauce and liquid smoke. it was just too sweet before.

ooo aaa

thanksgiving is past again. My brother and I are not afraid of punking little children. We won the soccer game 5 to 4.
in about an hour I'll be off to race in the Bonzo Benefit Alleycat. Moneys been on Stafford and Dave so well see if I have a chance. I was 5th in the last one but booted the route so I lost some time. Oh well.

It's raining and I did an hour on the rollers om my track bike. It felt pretty good. Especially since it is cold and raining outside... and dark!

This weekend will be an out weekend. Not out like that (even though it is Pride weekend in atl) Burlesque on Friday night and a screening of the Lon Chaney "Phantom Of The Opera" with the ASO orchestra live! That's going to be cool!
Tomorrow I'm seeing a play with some folks at work. Tonight is slugging about. It's a good rainy night for it. Maybe catch up on my magazines.

Lazy day off. Caught on the Vuelta Espana.
This evening went to Taco Mac to meet some friends. A hand full of racers I would normally see at the track were there since racing was rained out. Goldsprints were there. I lost two races but I had the 4th fastest time. Just bad draws, I guess. i did win a jersey in the raffle tho.

race is over. 24 hours is a long time to race. I did get to sleep about 3.5 hours in there. MY team - Race Riot! - we were 6th on laps and 8th on points. Only Team-tm beat us in both categories. My fastest time was 37 minutes and change but the tracking didn't show most of our statistics the whole night. There were 390 riders, so the tracking system worked well judging from the scale of the event.

i'm tired but I need to get to work. At least my head is not in race mode any more.
