Last night I enjoyed a 6 course french meal with six very nice french wines with a group of fellow food scientist from a lot of the biggest companies in New Zealand, it was fun. Its made having to go back to my boring job today even worse then usual though since I rarely get the chance to be intellectual in a place that is all about just achieving results as fast as possible.
Good news though I have an interview with the head of product development for a major international food company next week. and I have my fingers crossed that this means by the end of the year I can finally get back to being creative with my mad science skills again. It will also of course mean another $23k a year and being able to leave the city and go back to living in a small town again which I really miss these days.

My food science professor recommended me for a job in product development for a certain well known American food company. I'm really hoping I get it as it is my dream to work in a position I can actually use real science. So if you have any luck to share with me please do.
So I'm 30 now. I celebrated by doing a 15km run and then spending the day in bed. To be honest this is what I do every Sunday though since its my one day off. I then got up for dinner and drank a $50 bottle of champagne I've been saving. I figured if something really important actually happens it would deserve more than $50 anyway right. So now I'm drunk and 30 which is better then being sober and 30 I guess or lets be honest just better than being sober.
I got a B on the first essay I handed in for my post grad food science class here's hoping I can get 3 more though I was hoping to break the B streak I had all the way through my undergraduate degree.
So I havent posted a blog in a month.
Why?
Mainly because I've been very depressed.

In less depressing news my training to run in the Auckland marathon is going well I' now doing a 30 minute 4km run most mornings and hoping to kick it up to 5 in the next few days. Though the way I feel afterwards makes it hard for me to believe I used to run almost 10 km in the same amount of time.
I registered for the Auckland marathon yesterday, so I am now in training to run 42 km
. Needless to say I am glad I have seven months to train. It is also for a good cause though, the fight against heart disease. I'm hoping to raise a minimum of $500 so if you want to encourage me a little bit visit http://www.heartracer.org.nz/AdamRowe/
I just finished my first training jog and feel like vomiting so I need all the encouragement I can get. Working as a lab monkey and eating baked goods for lunch everyday has completely destroyed my fitness levels. Any advice on training methods is also welcome.

It's been my dream to do post graduate study in Europe. So to do I decided to torture myself by again looking for my dream Masters program even though I cant afford to do it. I found to schools I would love to study at, one in Germany and one in Finland. The thing is neither school costs much but I just cant figure out how to pay for my living costs while I study.
I've written 400 words of a 3000 word essay on how fatty acids are responsible for flavour which is pretty good considering I've been working 12 hours a day. I'm at the point though where I have to start decribing the chemistry in detail which to be honest as much as I love chemistry (I am a chemist after all) writing about radical reactions is one of the most boring things to do in the world. So I am currently procrastinating by cleaning my house, which did in fact need since my flat mate had a dance competition last night and there were 6 other dancing staying the night eating my food and dirtying my dishes, and writing emails for work on my one day off.
Hopefully I will buckle down and get it done soon since its only a small part and then I can get back to the exciting stuff.
