-Edited to explain more about genetics-
Evan, the guy I am buying my male pastel ball python from, is going to toss in a free possible het piebald with it.
That's awesome.
The easiest way to explain this so EVERYONE gets it is eye color.
Brown is dominant. Blue is recessive.
Now, if someone has brown eyes, they have two possible genes. One brown/one blue OR brown/brown.
Since brown is dominant, it shows. In order to have blue, you have to have blue/blue.
The 'normal" gene in ball pythons is like brown, the pied is like blue.
Someone that is heterozygous has one of each. We call it Het.
Someone that is homozygous has two of the same kind, be it brown or blue.
When you breed two het. pied snakes together, you get (per egg) a 25% chance of normals, 50% hets, 25% pieds.
Since the hets and the normals look the same, you can sell all the "normals" as 50% possible hets.
That is what I am getting for free.
This is a pie bald ball python.
Worth about $5000 for males, more for females. The white patches are usually random too.
Some cover 90% of the body, some 50%, some 20%. That is all random.
And now we know why I am single...haha.

geekgurl:
Figuring out possible gene combinations was my second favorite part of high school biology (the first being disections. hehe). Sounds pretty cool.

And you should totally get your roommate to let you play Jade Empire. It's awesome!
