Thanks for all the birthday wishes. For some reason I've been wide awake since about 5:30 this morning and now I'm drinking coffee, reading my new H.P. Lovecraft volume and chilling out.

I'm heading up to the Museum of Modern Art as soon as it opens, then it's hanging on the balcony with friends and beer.

Woo hoo!

I'm back at work after an excellent trip deep into the heart of Bavaria. I drank so much delicious beer and basked in the sunshine at the base of the Alps and just hung out with friends for a solid week.

I'll post some pictures soon.

Now I have to deal with the mountain of crap that piled up on my desk last week.

Going to Germany! Woo fucking hoo!

Last night in "The Fox in the Attic" I read the chapters all about Hitlers Beer Hall Putsch in Munich. I love reading books--history or fiction--that describe places I've been or am about to go. In just a few days I'll be able to walk the same path these characters took in 1923.

Also, I have been informed by my Munich pals that there is a big beer fest happening this weekend.

And did I mention that Judas Preist (reunited with Rob Halford) will be playing in Munich this Sunday? What could be finer than a metal concert deep in the heart of Bavaria?

Again, I declare "Woo fucking hoo!"

PEAS!

I planted PEAS over the weekend. And lettuce.

We had one of those excellent early springtime days here on Saturday so I smoked a big pipe of weedly weed and puttered around in the garden for the whole afternoon.

Even the blueberry bush--which we'd about given up on--shows signs of new growth already. Everything got fertilized and watered and truly dead things got tossed. Most refreshing.

AND I re-filled my pot box, which is always good. That was a special bonus as well--my friend who occasionally supplies me with dope came through then the next day another friend up and gave me a little bonus baggie. Just for no reason.

Have I mentioned that I'm going crazy for the Dutch?

I'm pretty excited about my trip to Munich--I leave in less than two weeks--but I'm now thinking about how much time I can afford to spend in Amsterdam in the summer. My friend in Munich is getting married to his German fiancee who lives up north of Koln, so I'm going to fly in and out of Amsterdam and take the train to her town. Should be an excellent time.

It started when I was reading about the history of New Amsterdam and now I've moved on to the history of the original Amsterdam. That place is amazing. And the Dutch have the most phenomenal history. I shan't go on and on, mainly because I should be pouring all this writing into the actual work I have to do.

Miss Kitty is doing just fine. It's so weird how not at all sensitive her skin seems to be. I've been jabbing needles into her for weeks now--for the subcutaneous hydration, mind you. She doesn't even flinch, nor does she seem to care about her stitches. We were very careful not to touch them, but we've discovered that she doesn't care if we do or not. We're still careful, but it's odd.

Really, I will post some pictures of her soon.

But tonight I'm off to see the guys behind homestarrunner.com give a talk.

Woo hoo

Took Miss Kitty in for her follow-up visit. The surgeon was happy with her healing progress so she's free from the dreaded cone/lampshade/elizabethan collar. So that's a good thing.

The other good thing is that the visit was already included in the massive bill I paid last week.

The not so good thing is how vague the surgeon was about everything. Two of the masses he removed were actually cancerous, so he wants us to make an appointment with an oncologist. This being the baddest-ass animal hospital in the city, they have a whole separate oncology department. It's one of their specialties.

I'll do it, of course, but I'm starting to think about just how far I'm willing to go. We already decided there's no way we're putting this cat through chemotherapy. My lady's father went through that a few years ago and said he would rather die than do it again.

If a reasonable human being who understands what's happening feels that way, imagine how horrific it would be for a wee animal.

But for now I'm just happy Kitty can clean her own ass again.

I'll put some pics up soon.

Thinking a lot about cats and their mystical powers.

It's interesting watching Little Prince Buster interact with Miss Kitty. She's wearing the post-surgery cone and she has huge patches of fur shaved off with a big scar in the middle of each bald patch--I've been calling her Frankencat. And Scarface. There was a tumor on her face.

Anyway, we were worried he'd seize the upper paw and bully her, but he's scared shitless and she knows it.

I've been trying to imitate Kitty's own cleaning habits to make her more comfortable in the cone. She really appreciates a warm wash cloth bath--I use lots of short strokes so it's more like a tongue. She still doesn't like me cleaning her butt--which is where she needs it most.

Lots of Kinks on the iPod today. I'm in a Kinks sort of mood.

The good news is that Miss Kitty is home from another trip to the Animal Medical Center. If anyone in NYC needs serious medical attention for their animals, this is the only place to go. They are fucking amazing.

Anyway, Kitty had some growths that had to be removed--they turned out to be benign, but one never knows what might have developed if left untreated. So now she's home and pissed off about wearing the cone.

The bad news is that I thought this would calm my lady down--the surgery is over and Kitty is home and it cost $700 less than the original estimate. But there seems to be no reduction in the stress level--yes, Kitty is sleeping, but maybe she's sleeping TOO MUCH! The woman can freak the deak over ANYTHING.

The good news for both of us is that her best friend from college is in town this weekend. THat's always good for my lady, and it's good for me too because this friend is a hotsie mama lesbian burlesque performer! Last time she came through we went to see her perform, which was a riot of hot naked flesh.

Finally got the recent Mission of Burma record--ONoffON--it's good, but not as good as Wire's Read and Burn discs.

Just got to get through one more day in the library then it's a long weekend of fleshiness.

Or cat care and worry.

Without a doubt, that was one of the top 3 Fall concerts I have ever seen.

Too swamped to post a full review right now, but check out these pictures (not taken by me):

The Fall at the Knitting Factory 2/10/05

More Fall at the Knitting Factory

The hotsie mama playing keyboards is Mark E. Smith's wife. That'd be wife #4 or maybe #5.

He is fucking nuts!
