And, in Spring, it applies to lizards, too. I present "Scar" and "Slim" vying for the unseen hand (er, claw) of a fair maiden (well, lizardette).
In the top corner, weighing in at something less than a quarter of a pound, we have the veteran of many battles, the fierce, the fearsome..... SCAR! And in the bottom corner a new challenger, fresh in from parts unknown, the quick, the dashing..... SLIM!

Scar sizes up the competition....
And Slim gives him a look of steely determination!
So Scar shows his stuff!
But this time it was Scar who fell off the wall, into the pine straw below. Round one: Slim!
But where a woman (scaly or not) is involved, who can bring themselves to surrender easily?
Soon Scar had flanked Slim and circled back from above!
Although, despite his tenacity, he seemed to be getting the worst of it.
As referee, I stepped in and very gently broke them up.
But as soon as I backed off... right back at it.
Scar perhaps reflects on the high price of love...
There can be only one!
I came back later in the afternoon. Only Slim was there, sunning himself on the wall.
I like to think, perhaps foolishly, that Slim won... but Scar ran away with the girl.
