i started to apply to jobs again today. i'm thinking no more food service for me (at least for a while). aiming more at the retail environment. trying to maybe find a job that doesnt require me to wear a suit every day...that would be nice. something perhaps where i could wear jeans. i love me some jeans.
but if its suits and food service that wants me i'll probably wind up there. none of it actually matters much. the job is just a means to get money. and money lets me do things like pay rent, purchase groceries, cover car insurance, and buy parts for my jeep. after that its all extra. so my pay requirements aren't really all that high, just high enough.
anyone got any suggestions where i can work? somewhere fun. with jeans. and preferably a lack of angry customers...but i guess that just kind of comes with the territory.

i should also specif that i want to remain management or at least a supervisor (i enjoy bossing people around). it kind of limits my opportunities, but i'm sure the right job is out there for me.
if anyone feels neglected because i didnt end up sending any letters their way, dont feel that bad, i only managed my parents like 3 or 4. and them and my real world friends took precedence. i didn't have much free time at all so it is what it is.
oh, and anyone know how to send a letter to mexico? i know, it should be just like sending a letter anywhere else, but either its not or i'm just too retarded to figure it out. i even tried like covering every inch of free space in stamps and it didnt work...
also, the first naughtly bits i've taken a look at since returning home from basic training is laurelin's set peep show. it was just what i needed after two and a half months of being sequestered from the world of exceptionally hot chicks.
first, i want you all to behave while i'm gone at basic. i *know* you all look to me for leadership and guidance and these next few months will be hard on you. but fear not, i have faith that you can all reach down deep within yourselves and grasp onto those metaphorical balls that i know you all have deep down on the inside. and whilst grasping said giant balls you can use your new found self empowerment to make good things happen for yourself.
next i don't want you all to be like "oh wow, dan hasnt been around in forever, i guess its time to delete him from my friends list"...and i ask you to not do that knowing that thats exactly something that i would do. i like you all, i'd like to keep interacting with you when i return. hopefully you'll pass me by the next time you cull your friends lists.
thirdly, if you are one of the people who've given me your address you will be getting an envelope in the mail. enclosed in the envelope will be my address written on an index card. i have a friend mailing out my address to everyone on my mailing list. the reason for this (and the reason you all arent getting a real letter from me to start with) is that in the beginning weeks of basic training my time to write letters will be extremely limited. this way i can minimize how much time i have to spend on sending you all my address which will in turn allow us to start corresponding faster (they arent sending me to logistics school for nothing). also please avoid sending me post cards (they get read aloud and i like to keep my correspondence private). also, please refrain from sending any kind of packages. i'm not sure what will happen if i get one (i assume they get opened and possibly confiscated) but i dont particularly want to be the guy that finds out.
and last, i want you guys to all be happy. i'm doing this because its going to make me happier. even if i fail at it (which i wont) i'll be happy because i put forth the effort and gave it a shot. so i want you all to be happy. try doing something you've wanted to do but just never got around to doing. trust me, with the right outlook, no matter what happens it can't go wrong - even if it does. ask someone out, take tap dancing lessons, go sky diving; whatever it is go nuts. i can honestly say that i don't regret any of my choices in life, can you all say the same? so stop wondering if, and just go for the gusto.

I won't be talking about resolutions, i have none. I won't be talking about the good and the bad from last year because it all went pretty well considering. BUT! what i do know is that last year after I got laid off everything in my life became about the army (and getting in shape for it) and my friends. I hope that this year will be similar in that respect with the only difference being that I have a job that i like (and one that doesn't run my life).

in 30 days time i will be down at reception for basic training and will be SGless for almost 3 months (GASP!).
in a week its christmas and while i dont celebrate it officially, i still will be heading down the cape to spend it with my friend's family. i've sort of been adopted by them.
the following week, i.e. the last week of 2010, i will be spending with my buddy john. we are going to work on our cars and drink scotch and make/eat bbq and do all sorts of many things like that culminating in new years eve...which will probably be kind of low key for us. but it will be a glorious week none the less.
after that its 2011, i'll be focusing on exercising and preparing myself for basic training.
but before i go i'll leave you with a video of what i did this last saturday. my buddy john was in a competition at work to make a large holiday decoration out of predominantly recycled materials. so we built a snowman out of #10 cans. it stands about 6 feet tall and when its finished should have arms, a face, buttons, a hat, a scarf, and hands made from oven mitts. i however was just there for the assembly of the snowman body and hooking up the lights that play to the sounds around them.
...i'm not sure why the sound doesnt work...it works on my lap top...oh well, you get the idea.
