ok, so a little real life levitation anyone?
it isn't real levitation. it is what is known as quantum locking. take a superconductor, super cool it, and then throw in a hand full of magnets and the supercooled superconducting object becomes suspended in relation to the magnets which use their field to hold it in place (hence the term "locking"). very cool. here's a video of an object that has been quantum locked and all the neat-o things you can do with it. Theoretically applied, something like this would be the basis for all you folks out there wondering where your flying cars are at.
Give it a few decades till someone builds a magnetic road and devises a propulsion system. i am a fan of the roller coaster push/pull magnetic system which would use the road you're on to move you by changing the +/- poles of the magnet as you coast along to push/pull you to your destination. and just program a computer to make it all work, gas up your superconductor of a magic carpet with some liquid nitrogen and away you go. Granted the energy needed to do this would require a lot more nuclear power plants to be built...something all you hippies won't let happen regardless of the fact that splitting the atom is the greenest energy the universe knows. fucking hippies. I want my flying cars that run on nothing but liquid nitrogen!

sometimes i get sad because i know the amazing things in life all have to end eventually.
i always get a little depressed after the rock and shock ends. i see all these great friends that i've made over the years and for 4 days we drink free booze at the after parties and only get an hour of sleep each night, we go back stage and even occasionally up on stage, but most importantly we get to get together. living spread out over the US and beyond, its the one time a year we are all in the same place at the same time.
and its wonderful.
but its over now and i know it will be another 363 days till i see everyone again...

its that time of the year again!
ROCK AND SHOCK!!!
if you're going look around for me. if you're lucky i may be able to finagle you back stage or up to the after parties...but no promises.

Why is everyone so upset by the death of steve jobs? people die. i go to funerals almost every day and the people i put in the ground have done a lot more for the world than he did.
i bury fucking heros. but very few people seem to care about them.
steve jobs was what oh so many of you have complained about oh so many times. he was a business man getting as rich as he could selling people things they dont need. he is no different from any other big business CEO. How is the CEO of any number of hated companies different from steve jobs? the answer is they are exactly the same.

He said I wanna see you again
But I'm stuck in colder weather
Maybe tomorrow will be better
Can I call you then
She said you're a ramblin' man
You ain't ever gonna change
You got a gypsy soul to blame
And you were born for leavin'
I'm a few days late on it but the official repeal of DADT happened a few days ago. this video reminded me of the large number of questions i've gotten about the subject. so before all the rest of you ask me here is my reaction: I dont really care about it. all i care about is if the soldier, marine, etc isn't all ate up. if you're a good soldier, i'm ok with whatever hole you like to put things in.
So I've been a bit absent lately. I've been busy. I've also been missing my friends on here and in the physical world as well. As it stands I'll probably only be getting more busy. I've been looking for a second job, mostly supervisory positions or part time management jobs. I love the honor guard but if I want to keep doing it I need to get another job. Which when I think about it, is weird. I basically want to get a job so I can work another job. Crazy.
The other day I actually broke 100 funerals. I've gotten about 115 under my belt now. After 150 I get put in for a permanent award...but one of the requirements is that you have 36 months working it. Right now, I have just under 4. So I may not get the award for another few years. But I will technically qualify on all the important parts. I'll let you all know if they let me have it early or if I'm gonna have to wait the full 36 months. And I know a lot of you (one...maybe two) might be saying "but Dan, one of the requirements is 36 months in the program". But to that all I have to say is that the awarding of this particular award is somewhat subjectively based. So there's a pretty decent chance I'll be getting the award in a few months.
Lastly, I have been taking a new girl out. Her name is Zoe, which I like. She is also pretty, nice and funny. Which I also like. So hopefully that goes well for me too.
ah yes, fyi to all those who haven't figured it out yet; i am back! honor guard school is harder than basic training, really. our trainers are certified by the old guard and Mass ARNG is one of three national guards that the federal gov. recognizes. so fuck yeah, i got that tab on my sleeve!
