My boomtown is receding into the recession nicely from what I hear on the radio. It hasn't affected me at all. I work at a pizza place, people are still digging their slices. Calgary, where I live, is an oil city, and oil prices are nose diving.
I am feeling isolated lately. I go and work in the pizza kitchen all day with the same 4 people, I go home and stay in because I'm saving money for...something. Being an (alleged) adult is hard on the social life. I'm 24. I don't know where you meet anybody new. I go to see bands some times. The atmosphere at bar shows here is weird. This is a pretty red neck city, so the people who go to rock shows are for the most part a pretty small group, and seem for the most part concerned only about using the others to justify their existence, and making sure to look like they're not having that good a time. They slump through the door looking like the cast of some period piece about their own period, ashamed and defiant at once. I understand though. We all have our insecurities.
Other than bars, I don't really know where to go to expand my social horizons. Since the rise of Facebook et al in the last five years or so (starting with msn and myspace etc.) it seems my generation has devalued real, meaningful personal connections. In my opinion this can only be negative. And here I am complaining about it on my blog.
Will write more soon. Stay warm everybody.
Later,
Jimmy Dustup

There's always church...or Safeway to meet new people.

Shamus, you are wise. Don't forget soup kitchens!
