So Borders Book Store is closed.

This is a sad time to be a book lover.

Yes there are the e-books and used bookstores and other "chain" stores...
But if this is a sign of the times, then us bibliovores are fucked.

Yes the copious amounts of cheap books that we've gotten are lovely. And I've picked up some stuff that I never was able to get full price (ZOMBIE STAR WARS!), or never would have looked at unless it was the last (or part of the last dozen) book in the store.

We went to both Walden (right when they opened) and the last Borders near us. 90% off or even 1.00 per book. The employees were oddly calm. And there was a frenzy of people looking at the 95% deserted shelves. Others hauling away bookshelves. The cafe looks like the aftermath of a riot.

We come home with our haul with no place to put them. They lie on boxes filled with other books. We spent money we didn't have. We spent time we didn't have. But we are happy with our books. Our manga. Our graphic novels. Our friends.

He who makes a beast out of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man...

Wait...

What?

Its nearing the end of August?

Shit.

Where has the damn time gone already...

Still unloading at the house. Its only been a year? Two. Dunno...
But we finally have bookshelves so things are looking good. Waaayy a lot of books. (almost wrote too many but that don't exist) However we don't have nearly enough of bookshelves so we are still going to have to box some stuff back up.

And with the the bookshelves comes the top of them to place gargoyles ans other collectables. wooooo!

Got some bad news that all four of AZs awesomest chain comic book store, Atomic Comics, closed down yesterday because of money problems. And this was with little or no notice to the patrons of that fine establishment.

Shit.

My wife used to work there. And was thinking about going back if she can't find anything. Our own money problems are mounting.

Just gotta remember that when somethings get too hard and the pain gets too much to have fun, to lose myself in those around me.

Holy crap its August already...

Really?

Anyway...

Con was awesome, however it does not look like we will be going back next year, or anytime soon unless they unfuckup their prices and way to get tickets.

Its fun and all, but I didn't want to be in line at 3am to try to pay more to get in next year.

That's just shitty.

And my knee went out of whack again so it was pretty damn tough getting around the bigass center and surrounding areas. Luckily I brought my brace, but still a pub crawl is not fun when your crawling not from drunkenness, but from mind numbing pain...

But not all was horrid. Got to stop by the SG booth and meet some awesome people and get the comics (signed even!). Got my annual hentai grab bag from J-List. Was able to sit in on the Dr. Who panel. Also w00tstock 3.0 was just fucking amazing. So I guess over all the journey was OK, but we left the convention with a bad taste in my mind. Its just gotten too big and too out of hand.

So were looking at going to WonderCon or mayhaps Dragon*Con. I'd Like to do APE but don't think that my wife or her sister are really into that. So shit, looks like we are going to go whole hog at the local cons and hope for the best.

That's if we can afford it...

Anyone know a job my wife (ex-school librarian/comicstore clerk) can get?

owjeezesfuckdammit...

That's how you know that you are making something good because you have to sacrifice a part of yourself to the cosplay gods...

burned the fuck out of my middle finger with a hot glue gun...

it hurts to type...

anyway...

Thus far here what has been photographed as close enough to completed...

Going to wear this with a bathrobe and a towel one day. I call it the Charm of Absolute Proof of Non-Existence by Absolutely Proving Existence.

Wooo...it lights up and everything!

Oh hi. So, how are you holding up? BECAUSE I'M A POTATO!
(not yet completed)

I just want it to be said that I hate white polymer clay.

I also hate that I have to wear latex gloves to keep white polymer clay said color.

However I am really enjoying this skull phone/gun charm.

gah...

I'm so happy that its almost over?

Meh.

Making oddball cosplay weapons/costumes is really damn time consuming. Luckily I have a job where I can sit in the back and work with polymer clay. So that makes things easier anyway.

The amp is pretty amazing tho. I got it to glow at the end and everything. Now I need to cut the raglan to make it look right and try to find some temp tattoo printer paper.

Also the Portal gun is coming along quite nicely. She's been working really hard on it. I think I'm going to try to fix up a potaDOS to put on the end of it since she is Portal 2 Chell. For next time I'll try to get a mini recorder in it so it can hurl insults at random people.

Now I just need to find a synthetic potato

heh...

And since this is SDCC 42 I'm going to get a bathrobe and towel and wear that around one day.

I'm hoping that by the time we get moving along I'll be a really hoopy frood.

Well...

With 32 days before we leave I've finally started working on the Amp weapon for my Cole cosplay. About an hour later and I've got the main form of it...
I forgot how much fun using Home Depot supplies for their not intended use can be.

Who would have thought that the hardest part of the damn costume would be a red and black raglan shirt?
I'm happy that they didn't change Cole like they wear originally gong to or the hardest part of it would be hair.
The sling pack would have been hard but the whole reason I'm even doing this is because I liked the original game so much that I got the "hero edition" of inFamous 2, that came with a statue and, surprise surprise, with the sling pack. Sly patch and all. That will make this cosplay even better for Con because it gives me something to haul free shit in. wooooo! Free shit!

But yeah. Gotta complete the amp. Make the last charm for Babydoll. And help my wife with the Portal 2 Gun. I think that this may be the most prop-heavy cosplay con we've done.

But it should be worth it.

Sweet Jeezalou...

SDCC can't come soon enough. Just fuckin' sad that money always has to be such a problem.

However.

How-fucking-ever.

Got free tix to a gamer-con that is happening at the same time there. So that should be fun. Just sad that the samurai and schoolgirls party is at the same time as w00tstock. Eh...

Also got cheapened tix to the superhero pub-crawl. fuck yeah.

Working on Sucker Punch Babydoll gun charms for the wife's cosplay.

And working on a Cole from Infamous cosplay for myself.

Mine should be pretty easy. Her's not so much.

I'll put up pics later. mayhaps

Gah!

Finally coming back from my post comicon coma. Wait...its friday? Its JUNE?

shit...

That was a good weekend. Con. Geek Prom. Birthday? really? I'm now 28.

shit...

As for the con, hopefully Wil Wheaton likes the shirt we made for him. He seemed to. That was a pain in the ass to make and screen print. But Aaron Douglas (who was next to him) took a picture of it and posted it to his twitter account. That was cool. And the fact that some people came up to us and asked where we got the shirt is totally worth it. I'll probably make some to carry with me when we go to San Diego...

speaking of which...

Only 46 days 'til we leave for SDCC.

Have to help the wife work on her BabyDoll cosplay. Making the gun charms out of sculpey. they have a shitload of detail and its kind of hard to make sure all of it gets in there.

I should go work on those.

I think I caught a head cold somewhere in there. bleh...

NYANYANYANYAN!
