got a motorcycle a month ago. finally.

it's a 1973 Triumph Bonneville 750. so far i've rebuilt the carburetors, changed the air filters, added a missing passenger footrest, changed the spark plugs and spark plug wires, and sometime soon i have to change one of the petcocks(that's right, petcocks...they're the little valves that shut off the flow of gasoline to the carbs, you're supposed to close them when you're not riding and one of mine is broken.)

so the next thing is i will have to either change the exhaust header altogether on the right side or figure some way to tighten it up better because it's leaking really bad. everytime i ride now, i get a mixture of oil and gas on my leg and all over the side of my bike from where it leaks out of the header. it's also leaking in a few other places on the engine so eventually(as in when it can't take anymore or it's gets too cold to ride, whichever comes first), i will have to tear down the entire engine and rebuild it. all the gaskets are old and dried up so after i started riding it they got wet from the oil and now leak really bad. changing the gaskets throughout the entire engine could take just a weekend to do, but lately i haven't the time on the weekend to do so. but i figure if i'm going to go through the trouble of tearing down my entire engine to change all the gaskets i might as well get the cylinders bored and the head reworked and just completely overhaul the thing. but it will cost a few bucks. not nearly as much as the work will cost me to rebuild my engine in my 66 Malibu cause it's a car and has a much bigger engine...takes more work, but it will still cost me more than i really have to shell out right now.

it is so much fun to ride though. i love it! i had been looking for one of these british bikes for about 3 years now and i finally found one that was still in original condition and had room for improvement, but was at least running. and i finally found this one and it wasn't too expensive. soon i will have it up to the standard i want and i can start riding to far away places all the time. problem with that is, and this will take some getting used to, is that the tank is only about 2.5 to 3 gallons and right now it will go about 30 miles or so on a tank, but that's mainly because i have such a bad leak and the petcock is broken letting even more gas be wasted even when i'm not riding it. so after i fix the leaks it should go about 3 times that i think. then i won't be bothered with having to fill up every 20 minutes.

i'm single again. had dinner with her night before last and it went horribly. she tried to get me to go back out with her but i can't handle it. i'm not into her anymore. i can't make it sound any better than that.

all i'm worried about now is getting these recordings i have coming up to sound as good as i can possibly make them. and get more work out of it. then get my shit together for my trip back to norway in june. i can't wait to get back over there. and also to get to go to germany to see my friend claudia. i never got to see any part of europe other than amsterdam and england. so i'm extremely excited.

recording work is coming more so now due to some friends i've made through being with her actually. i may actually get to record my favorite band in nashville that may be signing to Rough Trade records soon. there is actually another band in town that just signed to them with these 4 kids in it. they're all about 17 years old. i saw them the other night and i have to admit they're pretty tight, but the girl singing needs some help with her lyrics...i suppose she could just grow up, what do you expect though, she's fucking 16.

i need a new band to play in, i miss it. i want to go out on tour again really bad. there's a chance i'll be playing in a project band involving a former member of Braid and a member of Hey Mercedes. but i'll playing bass, which will be fun since i never have in a band. right now i'm just rocking this fun little Black Flag cover band with a friend of mine that's in Lambchop. i think that show is going to be out of control. i can't wait.

new stuff....i've grown a beard so i can have a mustache for my halloween costume. it's fucking weird, i don't like it.

someone rear-ended my malibu the other night. it totalled the other guy's car, but barely hurt mine. i let it slide so we wouldn't all go to jail for DUI. he said he just bought it, so i figured he was going to have enough to pay for what with his car totally fucked.

the studio thing hasn't been too swell lately. got to do a few things and finished up tracking for one project. now it's time to mix. we have a tape machine now that's fucking amazing. a few new mic preamps that are also amazing.

i'm about to try and start a new music endeavor. hopefully. it all depends on a highly talented but extremely unconfident guy that writes some really amazing songs. hopefully i can bring my drums and other instruments in and jump start him. i also am trying to get another band together with another drummer friend of mine that is one of the most amazing drummers i've ever seen. it's difficult for us to get together though because he has a studio also, but it's always busy. that and i've been having trouble getting motivated writing stuff on my guitar. i just want to do one more band that does something and goes a few places before i get too old and people start calling me a washup.

easy...T.

i finally have got some somewhat steady recording work...i recorded my friends nora deniro and this weekend i start on a instrumental band from knoxville called ibrahim.

also we've been getting lots of help from another studio owner friend of mine with lots of gear to lend out and help us find. he's got a tech that works on his stuff with a 1" 8 track analog tape machine that has been completely rebuilt and supposedly is one of the best sounding tape machines either of them have heard. so this guy is selling it for a really good price. i am excited. my newer band that i started last year finally got a bass player so we've been playing more shows. tuesday we're playing with a day in black in white which is some band on level plane records that i think sounds a bit like forstella ford. really fucking good band.
my life is full of awesome right now. day job is much less stressful now and pays more, more recording work, more shows with band, and a ladyfriend that i really like. and i'm getting to visit boston for the first time in a few weeks. good times keep on comin'!

late...T.
