Well I am settled on going for another octopus tattoo and leaning towards the left side of my neck with the tentacles reaching down around the lower portions of my neck, upper chest and shoulder blade / upper back. I have had such good feedback on the octopus I have as the focal point on my left arm sleeve it just seems fitting to add one more and it is in fact my favorite sea creature and pays homage to my background scuba diving and being in the navy. I am considering seeing Myke Chambers, a prominent tattoo artist worldwide and one whose home studio is actually not far at all from my home but this would require a serious commitment financially and time wise as he is very hard to get time with as he is always booked up or on tour at conventions worldwide. I do need to do a little more research on Myke's style as I'm not sure it would work for what I'm looking for with this next piece and my current artist does such amazing work and I love her to death. This piece would most likely be black and gray like my left arm sleeve's octopus and once again it has to be done in the likeness of the classic natural history, oceanography and/or biology books of the 16th thru 19th centuries. I just love the pen and ink renderings the artists did during this time. It is even more interesting how well these images from this era look considering most of the artists had never laid eyes on an octopus before. Moreover the various interpretations of the image are striking; some being a large menacing sea monster capable of sinking ships and terrorizing sailors and fisherman while others show the gentle docile creature they really are. Interestingly most octopus are not much larger than the palm of our hands and many are now classified as cuttlefish rather than octopus.
